GTKY: Weird comfort foods

All right ladies, people said they wanted more getting to know you questions and I thought this one up as I was eating my weird comfort food.  Even before pregnancy, did you have a food that comforts you but that other people think is odd?

I have two, both from my childhood.  The first is pasta with ketchup and grated cheddar.  Delish!  The second is applesauce with chocolate syrup and jimmies (sprinkles).  Sooo amazing and I think my mother's way of trying to get fruit in me :)

And...go!

Re: GTKY: Weird comfort foods

  • This isn't weird, but I LOVE chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes. It is definitely my go-to comfort food.

As far as weird things go, I dip my french fries in my chocolate milkshake. My mom taught me that one. Yummo!

  • I also need to add, I have never heard of either of the combos you speak of. They sounds disgusting. LOL!!

  • I don't have any weird comfort foods but today I was craving raisins in applesauce, it was yummy!

  • Haha, those do sound pretty gross! Mine is not weird, but I love, love, love mac and cheese.  Not the Kraft kind tho, homemade.
  • Mine is pasta with butter and parm cheese, yum! two more embarassing and digusting ones are ramen noodles (i know, who actually continues to eat this after college?!? haha) and  brace yoursself...beefaroni, yep the disgusting pasta and tomato-like sauce out of the can!  I dont indulge in these very often thankfully :)

Um, I just ate a whole box of Annie's Mac and cheese. Oops!

When I was little my mom taught me to eat "banana, milk & sugar". Her mom taught her when she was little. They did it cause sometimes cereal was too expensive. I haven't eaten it in years but it always reminds me of being little. It's sliced banana with milk and a teaspoon of sugar.

  • I don't know that this is weird but my BIL assures me it is. But ever since my sisters and I were kids we loved dipping our toast into hot chocolate. mmm...
  • My husband thinks almost everything I eat is weird because I am a vegetarian and he hates 99% of vegetables. I guess for me the strangest thing is that for some reason, peanut butter tastes really good right out of the jar. I feel that way about applesauce, too.

I still love ramen and I'm way out of college years. My crazy comfort foods are mixing corn with mac n cheese or with mashed potatoes.

  • I'm not having a weird craving just an obnoxious one! I want ice cream from this little ice cream place I worked at in highschool, it is home made and amazing it also has the best hot fudge anywhere! The obnoxious part is it's winter and it doesn't open until spring so I can't get any no matter how bad I want it.

  • Deli ham with cream cheese and a baby dill pickle rolled and then cut into bite sized pieced. When I'm trying to be healthier, it's crumbled cauliflower, celery and a blnched carrot instead of a pickle.

I've also been known to nuke pepperoni slices so they get crispy like a potato chip.

  • Mac and cheese-any kind but really I love the Kraft Spirals, I can eat that any day pregnant or not. As for having weird cravings now lately it's been Mexican food which is very weird since normally DH has to BEG me to go whenever he wants it and I usually just eat a taco. Now I'm trying everything on the menu and the spicier the better! Nothing too weird for me-olives straight from the jar or artichokes. As a kid I loved bologna, american cheese and ketchup though!
  • Mac and cheese with ketchup, or grilled cheese with ketchup. I love ketchup on everything lol.

  • I spent a few years in SE Asia and rice became my comfort food. Now when I am sick I don't want toast or chicken noodle soup. I want a bowl of rice with a little butter and salt.

I also LOVE spaghetti, but I usually eat it in a bowl with some corn. My DH thought that was weird when we got married, but guess what we both had for dinner last night! :)

  • When I was little and got sick, my mom would always make me cream of chicken soup served over toast (cut the toast up and eat it with a fork).  I still love eating it today when I'm sick or just when I'm craving comfort food.

So yummy, but kind of weird!
