I was induced Saturday around noon due to the start of pre-eclampsia. I started making progress and got an epidural because they thought it would help stabalize b/p... and because the catheter from the mag was SO uncomfortable. I vagaled during the epi placement, meaning my b/p went down to 70/40 and I almost passed out. The stress of the epi stalled labor. They broke my water, and then started pitocin when I wasn't progressing. Finally at about 11 p.m. after many pit dose increases, I went into active labor. By that point the epi was wearing off enough that I could feel contractions, which was what I wanted... thankfully still couldn't feel catheter. I pushed for over 3 hours w/ Kellen, so I was a little worried. At 1:05 I started pushing, and at 1:25 Everett James was born. He was 6 pounds, 14 ounces and 19 inches long.
Because he was early, they were worried about blood sugar levels. He was very low, so he earned himself a trip to the NICU. It took several hours of feeding and heel pokes before we were released. We spent all day still dealing with food issues even after he was brought back to my room... and I was still on magnesium for the pre-eclampsia. We had the family in and out all day, which was really hard on me because I was EXHAUSTED. I finally got some sleep last night.
Everett is a really sweet baby who sleeps a lot, which are the traits I was most hoping for! Other than having really dark hair, he looks a lot like his brother as a newborn, which is great because my [oldest] son is pretty adorable IMHO. We are waiting for results of his car seat study, which we had to do because he was born at 36+6 (22 hours too soon!). He also has some jaundice because apparently our blood types are incompatible (ABO incompatibility). We are hoping to head home soon as long as both car seat and bilirubin tests ok.
It was a very long weekend, but I am glad to have him here and obviously very happy that both of us are healthy. I'm hoping to post a picture soon.
Re: Everett James is here!
Congrats! I've never heard of ABO incompatibility before... I'm AB+ and my husband is O-, so I might read up on it.
I hope you both get to go home soon!
I think it's if the mom is O. Because I'm a universal donor, I make antibodies for A blood type (which E is), which are attached to Everett's blood cells... or at least that's what I got from this morning's conversation.
