DD will be 9 weeks old on Wednesday. I introduced the paci around 3 weeks of age. BFing was well established and she had started taking one bottle of BM in the evenings with no nipple confusion. In a moment of desperation we tried introducing the paci earlier but there was definite nipple confusion. We knew in the hospital that she'd be a paci baby. She clicked her tongue like she was sucking all.the.time. She still does it sometimes. We give her the paci whenever she is fussy and it's not time to eat. Usually that's when she is fighting sleep.

We first gave it to him at 2.5 weeks. He used it mainly to soothe him during diaper changes, which he still hates, and when falling asleep. We stopped giving it to him when he sleeps, though, because when it would fall out and he'd wake up without it he'd start screaming instead of being able to self-soothe back to sleep. Now he has it during the day periodically, but not often. He hasn't been bothered by the weaning.
We've never had nipple confusion issues - used a nipple shield in the beginning, had to supplement with pumped milk for a few days at less than a week old, gave a paci, and takes bottles for most of his feedings now I'm back at work. Still breastfeeds well (unless teeth are popping up, but that's a whole separate issue.)
We've used it since she was born and haven't had any issues with nipple confusion. She doesn't use it a ton though, only if she's already eaten and is still fussy and needs to suck to calm herself. She won't comfort nurse, I think b/c I have oversupply and she's getting too much milk still- she'll just fuss if I try to offer the breast, but will suck on the paci and calm right down.
After 2 1/2 years TTC, 3 IUI's, endo, and a lap, a surprise BFP brought us Alexandra Marie!
Introduced a pacifier on day one. Its been a Godsend.
We use the soothie pacifiers- we love the wubbanubs...they really really help her keep the paci in her mouth, and she is starting to be able to put it back in her mouth on her own because she can grab the little toy attached. She will also stroke the soft toys when shes tired....so cute!

This is why we started wanting to use it. Mine is a week old and it calmed him down during diaper changes but i was worried about the nipple confusion because one night he had it for a change then went to feed and i felt like he didn't want to suck hard enough to get the milk. so i was worried it was too soon.

I gave DS one at 4 weeks old. He had a strong need to suck and the pacifier was a godsend.
Now he only gets it to soothe himself to sleep. The pacifier is almost like a signal to him that its nap time/night time.
