We are flying from DC to AZ, about a 5 hour flight. Any tips on flying other than feeding when taking off and landing?
What do you do when you get to the airport and park the car? Do you put LO in the carseat and just put him in the shuttle to go from car to airport even though the carseat isn't fastened? Same with leaving the airport and finding a cab?
How about hotel (staying 4 nights)? Do you rent a crib/PnP or (and this sounds silly and very Seinfeldish but I know people who have done this) put him in a drawer?
Any problems taking the carseat and base to the gate? Stroller too?
DH is pretty chill about this excursion, but I am getting a bit anxious.
TIA
Re: Flying with LO questions
Most hotels will provide a crib if requested free of charge. Just ask for one to be delivered to your room when you are checking in. Just a heads up they aren't the newest cribs so use your own judgement when using them.
We didn't bring our base with us and just strapped the car seat into the vehicles with the seatbelt (see your carsear manual). We had no issues bringing the stroller right up to the plane with us. But we checked our carseat with our luggage.
We are flying from DC to AZ, about a 5 hour flight. Any tips on flying other than feeding when taking off and landing? Bottles up and down are good, but if it's not the right time to eat we found that a pacifier worked great. Bring things to occupy the baby with. Maybe get a small new toy your LO hasn't seen before and give it to your LO on the plane.

Same with leaving the airport and finding a cab? My DH dropped me and the baby off at the terminal and he went and parked and then came back via the shuttle from the parking lot. We decided with all the luggage we needed that if we can in the future we will ask a relative to drop us off and pick us up.

I think most hotels have cribs you can get in your room. If there is no crib or PNP you can rent. There is a company called "babysaway." They will deliver a crib or PNP and toys, etc. right to your hotel. They are all in new or very good condition and cleaned after every use. I've never used them, but I have friends who have and they raved about them. Just google the company name for their info. and to see if they have a location in your area. Very reasonably priced.
Any problems taking the carseat and base to the gate? Stroller too? There were no issues taking the carseat and stroller to the gate. Once you are at the gate you just drop it off right at the door to the plane. We flew Southwest and they were GREAT!

I was freaking out about our trip too and I have to say the only part that wasn't great were the TSA people at BWI. Other than that, the trip was great.
If you are brining formula, powder or liquid, just let them know as you are going through security. You can bring bottles of water too. Just make sure to tell them that you have the items and pull them out so they can see them go through the x-ray machines.
****REAL IMPORTANT*** Make sure you bring your LO's birth certificate. If you aren't paying for an infant fare and the LO is just on your lap they will need it to verify their age.
Good Luck!
We just flew from DC to Florida last week. It was MUCH easier than I expected.
My answers are above in bold.
Hey good to know! I'm planning to travel to from Puerto Rico to Florida and DH and me were struggling about the carseat issue and the stroller. But I think maybe I cannot take our stroller because is to big (it goes with the carseat so you know) maybe it woulbe be better buying a small one...
