Does anyone want a Leap Day baby?

Or St. Patty's Day?

I feel like its not like Christmas, where people try fairly hard to miss that actual day due to a lack of docs, nurses on staff and trying combine a major holiday with your child's birthday.

I have mixed feelings on a Leap Day baby... It could be really special or it could suck that you don't have a "real" birthday that often.

My H's family is very Irish, so I would rather avoid St. Patty's day. I feel like they would stake some sort of claim on the baby for some reason. (I know that doesn't make sense, but its how I feel.)

Re: Does anyone want a Leap Day baby?

  • I would love to have her on Leap Day! I think it would be a very cool birthday (and would much prefer to waiting until St. Patty's Day...).

It could very well happen too. Just got back from my dr's appt and he was very optimistic that I will go into labor this week! Time will tell...

  • I don't want a leap day birth, but my DH does. He thinks it would be cool and unique for them to have a leap day birthday. I think them being twins is unique enough for them. And I grew up with a guy that's b-day was on leap day and he hated it as a kid, now it doesn't really matter though.

St. Patricks day wouldn't bother me, but there's no way these girls will still be in there by then!

  • I do.  I know it's silly, but I think it would be such a fun birthday to have.  Also, it would mean that I would be all done this Wednesday, AND that I'd get a midwife on for delivery!  Fingers mega-crossed.  ;)

  • Not really, but right now I am not the one calling the shots.. so if he wants a leap day birthday..  that's what he is getting.  If I had to induce I wouldn't CHOOSE it personally

  • Not me! But I?m so nervous that she will be here on Leap Day for some reason. My husband seems to think it would be so neat but I?m a tad OCD and I would hate for her to only have a ?real? birthday every 4 years. DH and I both have holiday birthdays (his on Valentine?s Day and mine on Independence Day) so I think it would be neat if Reese?s birthday was on St. Patty?s day. However, that is two days after my due date and I?m praying that she gets here before then so we?ll see?.

  • I would rather have a leap day baby over St Patrick's day for sure!

  • I like the idea of a leap day baby in theory, but it would be sort of bad timing for us, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she doesn't come that day anyway.  I'd be all over having a St. Patrick's Day baby (my family is pretty big on our Irish heritage), but that's the last possible day my hospital would allow me to go, and I somehow doubt we'll get that far.

  • Personally, I'd rather not have a leap day baby, but not because of the leap year thing, but I don't like the number 29.  I know, that's totally weird, but I have some numbers I like and others I don't and I don't like 29... Big Smile

As for a St. Patrick's Day baby, I'd be totally down with that!

My birthday is Independence Day too! Best birthday ever!!

  • No way and I don't want a St. Patrick's Day baby either. SILs bday is on the 17th, and there's no way I want her sharing that day with our little lady (yep I'm a b). MIL is counting on the 29th...I will squeeze tight to keep her in until the 1st.

  • I would love to have her on Leap Day. I think it would be so cool! I figure that every year we could celebrate her birthday on the 28th and the 1st and when a Leap Year rolls around, we could do something extra huge and special that year.

That's exactly what we thought!  And it would be a whole family special event too, so that (hopefully) subsequent kiddos wouldn't get jealous.

  • I think it would be a cool birthday - my birthday is March 1 and I was born during a leap year, so I missed Leap day by 2 hours.  I always thought it would be neat to have a birthday on Leap Day.  Although, I do not feel ready to have this baby quite yet!

My due date is St. Pat's day and I think that would be fun too.  But I do not really have a strong preference for when she is born.

I like your style! I was thinking the same thing. I figure she could have a 48-hr birthday on the non-leap years, then her 4th, 8th, 12th, 16th, etc. birthdays would be EXTRA special!

My birthday is March 1 too! But I wasn't born during a leap year. I have been telling this little guy that Friday is the day. We'll see if he listens. I don't want a Leap Day baby but it's really not up to me at this point.

  • I do not.  I was thinking about that this morning when I was on the way to the OB. If she brought up induction I was definitely going to steer clear of that day.  To me it's a hassle because the day doesn't come around that often.  I mean for paper purposes it shouldn't bother any school or any other place you would register, but yeah I'm not sold on it.

  • Salt, that is a rad way of looking at it! Love that idea... DD is a New Years baby and we do a family celebration NYE and have an open house NYD so we could do something similar if DS is Leap Day. Don't know why but I've felt for awhile he may be a Leap Day baby- I think it would be fun, special and unique! If I can just make it til then (so uncomfortable- although my DD is 3/3 so its totally plausible!)

  • I'd rather avoid having a Leap year baby if I can. I'll be 37 weeks on Wednesday though, so it's not super likely that I'll have him that day. Plus, DH and I would never decide on which day to celebrate kiddo's birthday, so it'll be annoying (although I do like salt's suggestion of a two-day celebration). I'm totally pulling for a St. Patrick's day baby though. I'm due on the 21st, so it's possible. We're not Irish, but I just think it'll be so cool to have a birthday on St. Patrick's day.
  • When I was little I thought it would be super cool to have a leap day birthday, so I kinda want one for LO but I don't think he'll be here that soon! The actual due date, March 19th, would be great because our anniversary is July 19th and DH's birthday is Jan. 19th. Also I'm partial to March 8th because it is St. Felix day in the region of France where we lived. So there are lots of dates with meaning for us but really, whenever would be fine! :)

  • When I first found out I was pregnant and realized that having a baby on 2/29 was possible, I wasn't thrilled about it at all.  Now, I really don't care if the baby is born that day or not.  I'm at the point where I just want to meet him!

  • I would love to have a Leap Day baby.  I'm all about having "special" birthdays.  My birthday is on St. Patrick's Day and it was always the best birthday.  I am due on the 18th so it's more likely he will be here on my birthday then Leap Day.  I don't know how I feel about sharing my birthday though.
  • I would love a leap day baby but i feel there is no way she is coming early, St. Patty's day would be cool too because her middle name is Patricia which is the feminine form of Patrick :)

  • At first I really didn't want a leap day baby, but now that I am so close I think it could be cool.  At this point I don't care so much about the day, I just want the baby to come soon.  I really don't want a St. Patty's day baby though.  First of all because it is so far after my due date, but mostly because we plan on naming our baby Patrick if it is a boy and it just seems a little cheesy.  Also I don't want to always be asked if we named our baby Patrick because he was born on that day.

This is our plan too if he is born on 2/29.  We'd celebrate his birthday both days every non-Leap Year, and then do something big every 4 years.

  • My due date was March 2 and I wanted a Leap Day baby.  I thought it would be fun, although I am one of those type of people that tend to find the fun in most anything.

  • I wouldn't have WANTED to have my baby on Leap Day given that I'm only going to be 36 weeks. But since my doctor wants to induce me and she has Tuesdays off, this Wednesday is the next available time. Now I LOVE the idea of a Leap Day baby and am pretty excited! I go in at 8:30am to be induced so I suppose there's the slight chance I could have him on March 1st. We shall see.

I love the idea of celebrating on Feb 28th or March 1st every year and having a big celebration every 4th year though.

I think it would have been cool to have the baby on St. Patty's Day too, but doc won't let me go any further.

  • My due date isn't for another 2 weeks (March 14).  DH and I think it would be very cool if she was born on March 20 b/c that would have been her grandma's birthday but she passed away just before we started dating.  It would be her guardian angel.

And since I'm trying to avoid an induction, that's the latest the dr will let me go naturally :)

  • This is weird, but I don't really want her born on the 29th.  Not because it's leap day - I actually think that would be pretty neat - but because it's still February.  I don't like February.  Also, my mom won't be here until March 7th!  I'd be ok with a St. Patty's day baby!  It's a fun little holiday!

  • My husband wanted a leap year baby when we saw when my due date was. However, I am A-Okay with waiting until my induction date of March 7.
  • DH wanted me to try and schedule my RCS for Leap Day.  I didn't like that idea and I think the boys agreed with me :o)

I wouldn't mind a St. Patty's day delivery, as it was my favorite uncle's birthday, so that would have been very special for me.  Plus its also 3 days after DH's birthday.

  • I would love to have a St Patrick's day baby! My original dd was 3/17 but they switched it after my first u/s to 3/14 so it could happen :-) where I live there is a huge parade and i figure they would always have a big celebration for their bday!!  Plus we are team green so it just fits ;)

  • I wouldn't mind having her on leap day, but being that is tomorrow, not thinking that's going to happen, as much as I have been teased about it. My DH and I were kinda hoping if she doesn't come early to come on her due date (St. Patricks Day).
