My OB couldn't find it 4 days ago, but I figured it was because my 2 year old was being crazy and the OB wasn't able to "try hard enough". So I ordered one Friday morning, it came today, and I just tried for 15 minutes with no luck. Harumph.
I had planned on buying one earlier on and my DH didn't want me to because he was afraid if we couldn't did it I would freak and but extremely stressed out...
Have you watched the YouTube videos on how to find it? It's really important to look super low, around the pubic bone. When I tried it for the first time, I was looking way too high.
BFP #1 9/2010 (lost our baby at 21 weeks)
BFP #2 8/2011 (ectopic pregnancy)
BFP #3 10/2011 (chemical pregnancy)
BFP #4 12/2011 (Abigail born 8/15/12)
BFP #5 5/2013 (Griffin born 1/23/14 with heart defects, now repaired!)
I just had my check up with the OB this past Thursday. It took her almost 5 minutes to find the heartbeat long enough to record it and read. Baby was very active moving all over the place. She would get it up high near my belly button, then to the other side, and finally down low. Prob didnt help I drank a little bit of sweet tea before I went

It can be really hard to find this early... Try to make sure you have a FULL bladder and that you point down low! Our baby was always hiding so low, my hubby swore he could just talk to her through my hoo-hoo.... lol
Dont give up its hard to find, and it will be very quiet, and you have to move VERY slow to find it! And then baby could be moving away from the wand...
Also, when we got our doppler I was 13w0d, and I count not find her either, but 30 seconds in my hubbys hands with me laying flat relaxing he had her heart beat! )
Good Luck!
Started TTC in 2006, LOTS of trying, and trying, and 7 rounds of IVF with 13 embryos, 2 perfect little boys and 5 loses.... All finished with babies, started to make diet changes, Keto, to be MORE for my kids, lost 30 pounds, still going, and 3 months in, I had a natural cycle, and then ovulated... Hubs and I are going to see what happens now... Maybe a natural pregnancy? After everything we have been through? Or just a return to normal hormones? We shall see what the future holds!
I second watching you tube video! Thats what helped me. Here are my suggestions.
Start at your belly button and move the doppler straight down to your pelvic bone. Hold it very still and listen for a galloping. Dont focus on the screen because it takes time for it to find it and then "read" it. If you dont hear it in that spot after a few seconds, turn it a bit to the right and then to the left. I think most people move it too quickly that you dont have a chance to hear it through all the background noise. If you still dont hear it, move it less then an inch and listen again, over and over until you find it. I will hear it softly in the background (through all the noise) and then move it just a bit and it will pick it up louder and then eventually show up on the screen- rising from 130ish to 160ish very slowly.
I'm in the minority but I need an empty bladder. Also a good amount of gel is important. Good luck! It def takes patience!!
I also agree with pp about looking at a youtube video and looking for it very low.
I was able to find the heartbeat at 9 weeks and then when I looked for it, it was usually in the same area so it took less then 10seconds to find it. Then last week, I was searching for it and couldn't find it. I then looked around more and found that baby had moved more into the middle instead of towards the right.. I also noticed that for some reason, I now have to push down a bit harder to find it.
Good Luck!

That's one of the many reasons why I didn't buy one. I knew it was an extra expense, something that I'd want to do way too often, and I'd get stressed out if I couldn't find the heartbeat... Sometimes I wish I had gotten one anyway, but all in all, I'm glad we passed on it. )
I used mine a lot in the beginning but the last few times it's gotten more and more difficult because the baby's moved up a lot and doesn't like to stay in the same spot.
Now that I'm feeling fluttering on a daily basis, I don't feel like I need it as much. Whenever I eat or drink something sweet, she goes crazy and flies around in there. It's like she's doing somersaults. I also feel her when I lay still at night before bed. I can't wait until the kicks and hiccups set in.

I'm officially packing this baby away to give to my next pregnant friend as one of the "worst hand-me-downs ever". lol. DH tried tonight for about 10 minutes with no luck and then I tried again for about 2 minutes. We both THINK we heard the chugga chugga for about a milisecond, but it could have been our minds playing tricks on us. I'm going to go back with my blind faith that all is well. I can't wait to feel flutters!
Re: Why did I buy this stupid doppler?
We saw the baby's HB flickering on an ultrasound at 9ish weeks. I can find the placenta swooshing, but I check all around that area and nothing.
I was just going to suggest checking down low. I don't own a doppler but my midwife always finds the heartbeat down by my pubic bone.
