3rd Trimester

stretch mark lotion recommendations

I got some new stretch marks during pregnancy but didn't realize it and never used lotions. Since birth 5 days ago, they are now evident and almost raised and raw from belly now being smaller. They burn and are itchy. Any cream/lotion recommendation?

  • I've been using Mederma Stretch Mark Therapy as of late. I can't see pxt my boobs well enough to know if it's working, but the hubs says the marks look and feel smoother. Be aware, though, that the stuff is forty dollars a tube.

  • I use Basq Advanced Stretch Mark Butter. I don't have a single stretch mark and it feel SO good! It's pricey (about $35 for what hey claim is a 4 oz tub, but I transferred it into a 3 oz one for travel and it all fit), but I love it.

  • I have been using Mama Love Belly Salve and have zero stretch marks thus far at 35 weeks Smile It is a little pricey (about $17.99 for 4 oz jar) but I think it is well worth it!

  • I've been using BIO-OIL, and so far, no stretch marks, but only time will tell.  I like the oil rather than the balm/lotion because (for me at least) it seems to last all day long.  The balm/lotions seemed not to keep my skin quite as moisturized.
  • Thanks for the recs, ladies!

I sent DH to get me some Burt's belly butter to help immediately with itching and am ordering some Mederma. Awww.. the things we go through for our kids!!

  • I love Mama Mio Tummy Butter and Tummy Rub Oil.  With the first pg, I stopped using it after birth and started getting stretch marks.  After using the Tummy Butter, they were 99% gone.  I'm definitely going to keep using both products after birth this time around... the instructions actually say use for 4 months after birth.

Keep in mind, with my first I didn't get stretch marks from growing bigger because it is gradual growth it was when I shrunk back which was a quick change that the stretch marks appeared.  With my 2nd & 3rd my previous stretch marks have just expanded so far.

  • I have used cocoa butter on my belly since my + preg test and did not have any stretch marks until 35 weeks so I thought that the lotion was preventing them.  I think its genetics whether you get them or not, though I do think the lotions makes them HEAL and FEEL better.  Look at them as badges of a real woman, thats what hubs says lol

  • I use basq oil and bio oil.  Not stretch marks yet but seeing as its more genetics I can't really say its the oils.  However I am never itchy and my skin is well hydrated I put it ALL over face, belly thighs, boobs and belly.
