At 8 days old my son was diagnosed with an arachnoid cyst on his brain and hydrocyphalus. He has had surgery to place a shunt from the cyst to the ventricle and the cyst appears to be shrinking in size. He appears to have some weakness in his left arm and his eyes often deviate to the right (the cyst was on the right side of his brain so these symptoms appear to be related). Has anyone else had experience with arachnoid cysts or internal shunts (not a vp shunt, as his shunt only connects the cyst and ventricle)?
Re: Arachnoid cyst on brain
Hi,
Sorry to hear about your son. My daughter was 18 months old when she had a seizure at home out of the blue. They did a ct in the er and she had a tennis sized arachnoid cyst in her posterior fossa smashing her cerebellum. She had surgery to removed it a few days later. She always had coordination issues and we never knew why. After the surgery she was in pt for her right arm and leg weakness. Her arm would also contract out to the side sometimes. It took about 6 months but she is finally healed and doing much better. She never had a shunt and the doctor never mentioned it as an option. She is now 27 months.
