Soy butter / sun butter

Are not that tasty IMO!  And my son won't even go near it. Is there anything else out there? Or are there better tasting sun/soy butter? Can you suggest a brand you like? We tried the trader joes sun butter and a so butter from a friends house and was kind of grossed out.

On a side note. We met with an allwegist today to go over the numbers and I was actually pleased. My pedi got me so scared and just said the numbers are super high but she didn't know the previous numbers.../ so it looks like all of his numbers went down. Even his egg wchich was level 6 is now level 3!  I know it doesnt mean a whole lot since the numbers can go up and down at his age. But it's just nice to see it on paper. I'm just super annoyed at the added tree nut allergy.

Re: Soy butter / sun butter

  • This is the only kind I have ever had and I really like it.

Is this one you have tried?  You need to get the one with the red lid.  The one with the yellow lid (natural) is not good, in my opinion.  There is also a crunchy one, but I haven't tried that yet.

Have you introduced soy yet?  How exciting!  And that is good his numbers are coming down.  I hope they keep coming down!  We go back in a few weeks and I am nervous,  I will be very disappointed if we add any more allergies or if things have gotten worse (like peanut).

That's the brand that we buy, too.  I think the one with the yellow lid is good, but I always bought natural peanut better before DD's diagnosis, so the texture is close to what I was used to.  It has a bit of a sunflower seed aftertaste, but it's not strong, and I think it tastes pretty good on a sandwich.  My DD really likes it, but she's never had real peanut butter.

I've only tried one kind of soy nut butter, and I didn't like it.

We three! :) My daughter likes it and so do I. I developed my peanut allergy later on so I do remember what peanut butter tastes like and this is very close.

  • We haven't had any complaints with ours - we get the natural kind, but we were getting the natural kind of PB before.
  • DD likes the TJ's sunbutter but she's never had anything else to compare.  I personally am not a fan but I LOVE PB, so I just think its not the same.

  • thank you ladies!  i'll try that one.. the one i tried was from TJ's and it was really nasty! (at least not for my taste)..

I recently threw out the one from sunbutter.com b/c we had it in our fridge for over a year and it expired.. i always wanted to try it and never did since my son ate almond butter so well.

I honestly don't think he's going to like sun butter since he was such a huge fan of almond butter (tastes totally different to PB imo) but worth a try.. even if i use it in my rice krispy treats so it hides a bit of the taste.

thanks again!  having soy has been awesome but i'm trying to limit it also since i'ts something i've became a bit cautious of.

  • I make my own. So freaking easy. Roasted sunflower seeds and oil in food processor. Then get to desired consistency and add in however much sweetener you like!!

  • I have found that Soy Nut Butter and Sunbutter are very different. Soy nut butter is made from soy nuts- and it is absolutely disgusting. Sunbutter is made from sunflower seeds and is SO YUMMY! If you don't like the plain, try the honey kind, or the crunch. I personally love all of them.
