How often to bathe?

Good morning! My LO is 2 weeks old today. His cord stump has not fallen off yet, so we are still sponge bathing. How often do you all bathe infants this small?

TIA!

Re: How often to bathe?

  • Every 2-3 days at that age. Now we bathe everyday because it's calms DD but we only use soap every 2 or 3 days.

  • My pediatrician said every 3-4 days.....

If she spits up a lot though I wipe her down. I do put lotion on her twice a day though because her skin gets so dry.

  • We do every other day.

  • Apparently we're lazy but dd only gets one once or twice a week.  She seems to get dry skin so we just do it when she gets stinky.

  • We bathe DS every 3 days.  I will take a warm wash cloth and wipe him down every day, especially under his neck to get rid of any spit up residue.

This.  We are lazy too, mostly though we are trying to get everything else done and haven't incorporated bathtime into our nightly routine yet.

Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

DD get's dry skin when we give her a bath. I asked the Pedi and she said since it is winter time and with the heat on it can inc dry skin. So 2 times a week is fine.

  • My pedi told me that putting water on the cord stump actually helps it dry outat first i thought he was crazy but since all my neices and nephews had him as their doc i listened. We went home gave LO a bath and two days later itfell off. He was 7 days old. Could just be a coincidence but before the bathit didn't seem to be ready to fall off.

    This.

Also, our MW said its OK to have the stump go in the water and we never had any probs with that, so....

  • Once a week.  DS has dry skin and slowing down on the baths has helped clear it up.  His belly button is all healed though so I am looking forward to bedtime baths once his skin is doing a little better.
