Bridesmaid dresses

i've been asked to be in a good friend's wedding at the end of the year, and she's doing the whole "pick your own dress" thing - which does NOT work well for me when i can barely dress myself on a day-to-day basis. her rules are: long/floor length and a neutral/blush/mauve family of colors. help please! i suck at this.

Re: Bridesmaid dresses

  • How formal are we talking? Indoor or outdoor? Where is the ceremony? Any other requirements/restrictions on material, embellishment, print?

  • I have been looking at Bridesmaid Dresses with my sister, and we liked the Bridesmaid Store on 183.  They have a huge selection and are super nice!  Not to mention the awesome nesties who own/work there!

  • Price point? Any body things you want to show off or hide?

so i know they booked the catholic church for the ceremony. not sure where the reception is yet. i would guess indoors since it's a december 1 wedding.

she said it's up to us for material, style/shape, etc. i would guess all solids instead of everyone showing up in different prints.

$150 and under would be great.

thanks to bf'ing i have pretty big knockers. by december, (if i'm still able to BF) i think i'd be down to just a morning and evening nursing session, so hopefully these suckers get back down to a normal size. no deep v-necks. i have chunky arms, so cap sleeves wouldn't look good. i think everything else would be hidden with the length of the dress (butt, thighs, belly).

  • i think i'd hold off a few months to see how my postpartum body was changing before i bought anything. then i'd probably just buy something off the rack at a nice store like nordstrom.

yeah, i told the other bridesmaids that i probably can't buy until fall because i'm back on antithyroid meds that will make me gain weight. since they want to coordinate, i'm trying to find some options and be a team player. :)

  • Yeah, I would hold off until the fall if you can.  In the meantime, though if you happen to see something good, snatch it up and get it altered.  Would definitely try Nordstrom, NM Last Call, etc.

Actually, just looked at Nordstrom's bridesmaid section on their site and they have a lot of good options.  They're good about returns and price-matching, too.

i'll have to get any dress altered anyway since they don't make many long dresses petite length. i haven't been to NM last call. i'll check it out. good idea.
