Any good exercise routines?

Hello October Mommies!

I'm due at the end of October. I began the workout called "insanity" a few days before I found out I was pregnant. I really like the workout program, however, I've read that high intensity workouts are not the best. I would still like to get my heart rate up a little so that I can stay in shape. Then again, I feel so lucky to have been able to see those two red lines, so I don't want to risk any complications either. Do any of you  know of a good workout plan that is good for both mommy and baby?

  • I'm planning to get Linsey Brin's Complete Pregnancy workout DVD's.  They have a DVD for each trimester and then a postnatal bookcamp!

  • I do Zumba and PiYo.... Zumba can be really intense. I just keep reading as long as you can keep a regular talking voice pattern while you're working out it's ok.

  • Too funny--I started insanity a few days before I found out I was pregnant too.  DH and I were doing it together, so I still do it with him, but I've cut out all the jarring jumps and take more breaks so that I don't get too exhausted.  I also just bought a couple Pilates and yoga DVDs for when I get a little further along and really can't do any of the insanity any more.

  • If you have cable, you could try some of the fitness videos on OnDemand? I don't know if they have specific ones for pregnancy, but I do a walking video in the mornings and it's free to rent. Once it gets warmer out, I plan to be outdoors walking more.

  • My on said that as long as I keep my hb at 150 during cardio then I'm good to go!

  • This one lady was still a Zumba instructor at 8 months pregnant and I believe she did Zumba up to close to the end. She looks like she's doing just fine. Smile.

I personally am ordering the Perfect Pregnancy workout DVD to supplement regular cardio. Last pregnancy, I only did light cardio throughout and I felt like my muscles were mushy afterwards, which I wasn't all that comfortable with so I'm hoping to just maintain some muscle tone and strength if possible.

  • I too am doing Lindsay Brins Complete workout dvd. Super fun and the yoga feels great.
  • With DD my Dr told me not to let my heart rate get above 140. I was active in high intensity spin classes at the time. I just wore my heart rate monitor and when it started getting close I would back off a bit and let it go down. I did spin all the way up until she was born. I don't belong to a gym anymore, but I plan to keep doing my elliptical regularly and some weight training. I am hoping to get my arms in nice shape for summer since I will be big. lol
