FU to yesterdays post re:Bump on DD's leg that is hard & bright red

So I took DD to the dr yesterday and the bump that was on her leg, bright red and hard was an abscess!  They had to give her a shot to numb the area and then open it up and get the stuff out.  DD screamed and of course I cried.  It was horrible!  They sent it off to the lab to see if it is MRSA.  I really hope it is not.  I am so frustrated that DD has had to deal with all this so much in the last few months.  This is the 5th time in 2 or 3 months that she has gotten some sort of bacterial infection.  They really havent given me any answers as to why she keeps getting it.  Only that she is very likely to keep getting it now that she has had it.  I have to bathe her in bleach water for the next week to try to help clear it all up.  Has anyone else dealt this this?

  • Poor thing! I'm sure that would be tough.

I had an abcess and MRSA when I was pregnant with DD but luckily after the antibiotics I was fine. I tested negative on each of the 3 follow ups. Hopefully your LOs clears up just as easily!

  • I'm glad you posted this. My DS stayed at his grandma's last night, and when my FI went to get him this morning, she told him about a red, hard bump on DS's butt. She said it's gotten bigger since last night. (I hadn't seen it, it wasn't there yesterday afternoon).

My FI brought him home and showed me, and it was leaking a little. We're taking him in to his pedi in the morning, and I'm praying it's not MRSA as well. I'm so sorry your DD had to go through that, and I hope both of our babies get healed up soon!

  • My LO has gotten those several times, and all cultures came back MRSA. He never had one opened, his antibiotics always took care of them without having to go that far. We switched his body wash to dial because it is antibacterial and we wash him in Hibiclens (OTC antiseptic wash)  about once a week. The pedi recommended very diluted bleach baths about once every 2 weeks as a prevenative, but we haven't done that. He hasn't had one in several months (crosses fingers) so we are hoping this is a thing of the past!
