Correct Gender?

how sure are you that the ultrasound tech/doctor is right on the sex? I am just lately starting to doubt..what if I have this pink and out pops a baby boy! How accurate are they usually?

Re: Correct Gender?

  • My u/s tech said she has never been wrong in 20 years, so we're hoping that we're not her first!

  • It will vary from baby to baby and from technician to technician. The ultrasound tech should be able to tell you how "sure" they are on the gender assessment. For me, I asked, and she told me she was 90% sure it was a girl at 19 weeks. I had another scan at 32 weeks and the same technician confirmed that the baby was still a girl. Having had two scans confirming the same thing, I'm pretty confident in her assessment....

But I know how you feel. With my first DD I only had one ultrasound, at 20 weeks, and was told it was a girl. But I always questioned it and had a fear that she'd come out with a penis! I think most people worry a bit about this... We all hear the stories - and I actually had a friend who was told it was a girl on two different occasions, and baby came out a boy. She spent the first few weeks genuinely grieving the loss of her girl because she was so set on it, and wasn't prepared at all for a boy. All is good now, of course, and she can't imagine it being any other way.... So I guess what I'm saying is that even in the worst case scenario, it still works out in the end.

  • Totally understand this! I would of course be happy regardless and so thankful baby is healthy. I am just an organized person who likes to be prepared!!! :-)
  • I keep having dreams that it's a girl and my son keeps telling me it's a girl/ sister. The us showed boy. I'm sure the tech was right, but I still kinda wonder. I guess I'll find out when the baby comes out!
  • Our tech informed us back at our A/S that she will NEVER give the gender if she is not 100% accurate.

So, when she told us girl .. then we got the MOTHER of all "money shots" .. there was no denying it!

  • I remember with my DD I Googled lots of u/s pics and compared them to mine of the girl parts.  I was paranoid whether the tech was right and she was!

This time it was obvious in my 20 week u/s that my baby boy had a penis so I am not doubting it.  I am also having a few more u/s though so I figure I can get it reconfirmed then if I want.

Haha, that is exactly what mine said, 20-something years!  Plus, we had a few u/s after that and we confirmed at each one.  If she comes out a boy, then he was a master at hiding his junk away.

  • This is one of the reasons DH and I have stayed Team Green!  I know TWO people that had this happen to them.  They had a definite gender statement at their A/S, didn't get another u/s throughout pregnancy because they didn't need it and *POOF* the baby is the opposite of what they were told!  One of them had gone all out with the pink, princess decor... I helped her husband redo the room lol

  • Whenever a tech has told me they're sure - they've never been wrong for four babies.

For my first baby girl I had numerous ultrasounds due to complications and every tech told me that it was just their best guess.  I didn't have enough amniotic fluid to get an accurate guess.  I heard both girl and boy.  The final guess was boy and the tech said that she was "pretty sure" but couldn't be certain.  I went into labor thinking probably boy, but she was a girl.
