Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Stroller question - tray/bar necessary?

We've made it this far with only a snap and go frame, but LO is moving to a convertible seat in a couple weeks, so we need a new stroller.

For our needs, I can only find about two lightweight strollers that have some sort of bar or tray. I'd assumed we'd need one, but now I'm questioning it. Snacking isn't an issue so much as just giving him something to hang onto or bang on or tether toys to. To help avoid boredom, basically.

So based on experience, does it really matter? Are most toddlers actually happy to zone out on the scenery like babies are?

Thanks!

  • I've kind of been looking around for a stroller to replace my travel system stroller and a child tray is on my list of "really want." It probably won't be a deal breaker, but I know DS likes having the tray.

  • We've never had a tray, and it's been fine.

This. If DS needs a snack then he's perfectly capable of eating without a tray. If he needs enough of a meal that a tray would be required we'd sit somewhere and eat together.

  • We have the Chicco that is part of the travel system that has a tray and a Maclaren that doesn't. We've never really used the tray on the Chicco and I don't think I'd miss it. It may come in handy at some points but it wouldn't necessarily be a deal-breaker for us.

  • We have a Bumbleride Indie and couldn't stomach the $50 cost for the additional snack pack. I bought a fisher price brand snack cup holder at Target for around ten bucks that hooks onto the side of the stroller and that has worked great! It has two areas, one for a cup and one for a snack. The only way I can get DS to sit nicely is to keep Cheerios and other snacks coming his way!
