The whining.is.killing me

On one hand I am happy that DS is so determined to learn how to scoot or crawl, or whatever it is on his mind, but all day long he rolls onto his belly, then plays for a short bit, then whines. A Lot. He swims like a fish, and I know he is just frustrated, but there are only so many hours a person can listen to that noise. Not to mention the whining when I walk more that 2 feet away from him. Or the whining while he eats... what's up with that one? He keeps opening up for more, but seems so mad! I really hope this phase it a quick one! Anyone else's normally happy LO really mad at the world these days?

  • Yep...the mmmm, mmmmmm, mmmm whine! I posted this on the July board not too long ago. I love when she is making noise and trying to talk but this whine is a whole other story!! It has seem to subside some in the last few days (knock on wood) so maybe the same will happen for you!

  • Mine has been doing it for 8 days in a row now. The whining and the moaning especially while eating. Last night I noticed a tooth poking through, so I believe it has to do with the teething.

I hope you're right because DS just started crawling this afternoon!  All day today he whined and there were a couple of times that I would put him in a sitting position and he would stop whining, but the thing is...he can get into a sitting position from his belly but it was like he forgot how today with getting ready to crawl (holy run on sentence!)

  • Hahaha!  I just told DH that sometimes I think that DS is a toddler trapped inside of a baby body.  Yes, the whining drives.me.crazy.  He is so frustrated with not being mobile right now.  Plus, his attention span really short.  I think he's bored.  We've had to do some switching out of toys and lots of entertaining.  And then sometimes I just let him work it out on his own.  His newest trick is trying to go from sitting to crawling position and then face planting into whatever toy he is after.

I guess it's an awkward phase for them right now.  I WILL have to remind myself when he is into everything that there was a time I couldn't wait for him to crawl : )

  • I'm in the same boat.  At first I was happy to hear DD found another way of communicating besides crying.  But the whining is so annoying!  ...And I'll be listening to her whine (in one form or another) for many years to come.

  • yes it is so annoying but is just a phase!

On another note...I don't what will be worse...whining with or without words Wink

Oh, whining with words, and tears, and screaming, and stomping of feet, etc. is WAY worse.  I'll take my baby whining over my 3-year-old whining any day, any time.  At least a baby has no other way of communicating.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

I only have one kid, and I'm STILL going to go with you on this.  I HATE listening to a toddler whine... I'll take the baby any day.

I'm with you. After listening to my 2 year old all day, the baby's whining doesn't even phase me.

  • Yes! I was just starting to brag at how good DD was doing at being happy with playing by herself in her playpen and then bam...about 2 weeks ago she is doing exactly what your describing besides the eating thing. I'm starting to go crazy at times! :p
