First Dentists Appt?

My LO has three teeth.  The top two and one on the bottom.  I'm just curious as to when you gals plan on taking your babes to the dentist for the first time.  I have heard a few mixed answers.  I was leaning more towards 1 year, but someone my hubs works with said they weren't planning on taking their lo until 2 years.  2 seems a little old, especially if they already have established teeth.

I do brush his little teeth.  He absolutely loves it.   My husband actually said "why don't you check your bump boards".  LOL.  Thanks for your input!

My pedi hasn't mentioned it, and my LO has 8 teeth (and has since her 9 month appointment). If he doesn't mention it at her 1 year, I'll ask, but I've also heard that 2 years old (or older) is standard.

im a dental hygienist and technically the pediatric dentists rec as soon aa they get their first tooth. i personally think thats a little silly being that all they will do is look in the mouth. my lo has 8 teeth as well and i plan on taking her at a year. its good to get them in the habit of going when they are young that way they are less likely to be fearful when they are older in addition to est good hygiene practices. i think one year is a good time but i know of ppl who bring theirbabiea in earlier

My pedi doesn't recommend it until 3. We'll probably go a little earlier, but closer to two than one.

Our dentist has a pediatric side as well.  I asked when to bring in my son when I went in for one of my own cleanings. They said any time after 2 yrs old.  We took Drew around 28 months.  They said it's basically just to count teeth, briefly look for any problems (although they said there are hardly every any issues), get the child used to the dentist, and talk about dental hygiene with the parents.

I personally didn't feel any need to take him earlier than we did.

When I was pregnant, my dentist suggested that I bring DS in with me once his first tooth came in so that she could have a look and he could get used to the sound of the machines, etc.

He has four teeth now, which all literally came in between 8-9.5 months, so I'm planning to take him to my next appointment, which is in April and coincidentally around his first birthday.

We took our older daughter at 2 years old ONLY because she had what looked like black spot in a tooth that turned out to be a strawberry seed or something. Otherwise we would not have taken her until much later or as needed.

Some areas of the country have fluoride in the water (like us here) so there is no need to do a fluoride treatment because they are already getting some of it. I think taking a baby right after they get their first tooth is ridiculous. We didn't even have my daughter on our dental insurance until over a year old.
