Pandora bracelets

Tell me about yours. Was it a gift? Have you received beads as gifts?

I am thinking about treating myself to one, I have had my eye on them for awhile. I want it to tell my story and for the beads to have meaning to me, but my concern is that it will just be a mish mosh of things and the end result will not be as nice as ones I have seen.

Any tips? What do you suggest I start with?

Re: Pandora bracelets

  • My mom got me mine as a gift for DD's first birthday. Here and there she has bought me additional beads and I've bought some as well. Even though it's not as "patterned" as the designed ones you see in the catalogs and ads it's pretty and I like it.  Its also meaningful.  But, eek, I hate wearing it. I simply cannot type comfortably with the darn thing on. Sigh.. If I could do it over I'd add more red enamel beads because that's my favorite color and it's the only real unifying theme I have. I do think you need something to tie it all together. Oh, and it gets expensive fast.

Eta: start with two clips and a bead so your bracelet will have three beads/ items in the center. Then build out in pairs to keep it balanced.

  • I want one too - and my birthday is in a few weeks. Problem is, I don't know if I should start dropping hints to DH or just buy it myself one day. I love the idea of it being symbolic. Do the beads have specific meanings or is it whatever you want it to mean? My DH would need a lot of help if it were left up to him.

There are a lot of general beads that can mean anything or nothing. But they also have beads like a baby carriage, or a wedding cake. They have letter beads and birthstones as well.

I am concerned that if it is left up to my family they will buy me whatever and it may not be what I want or meaningful to me. They do have a wishlist where you can save the beads you want to the wishlist so your hubby has an idea what to get!

It seems a little overwhelming, I need to pick a few to start with and go from there.

  • My SIL bought me a generic one and I love the look and meaning of it, but the quality is not there, so I say go for the name brand. Some of my generic beads are peeling Sad

My mom has a real one and I have been buying her beads and I love hers so far. She has each of the girls letters, a little girl charm, and then a charm that represents their nursery theme and birthday themes. I am totally jealous of hers and wish it were mine.

  • I have one. My DH has bought the majority of my beads. I bought the two clips for it, and a purple enamel bead. DH bought me my birthstone, Matt's birthstone, a bead with purple hearts (purple is my favorite color and we got engaged in February, which is an amethyst birthstone), a mommy monkey holding a baby monkey (i LOVE monkeys), and a dog house bead (love my doggy). So, it's a mish mash of things, but I absolutely love it. Each bead tells some kind of story.

  • If you're just starting one, I'd start with two clips (they aren't expensive as the beads, but are really nice..they keep your beads from sliding to the bottom) and a bead that has some kind of meaning to you.

  • My aunt gave them to my sister and I and she is the only one who buys us charms for them, which makes it really really special.  She puts a lot of thought into the charms and they all have meaning.

I agree with starting with two clips and one or two meaningful beads/charms.

  • consider a traditional charm bracelet.  It's not as trendy, but I love mine.  As the girls from the Chicago GTG know...  we spend a lot of time in Tiffany's trying to get a particular charm!!!!  And, the charms are a little more obvious as to what they represent.  Versus "this red bead", I have all kinds of silver shapes.  I love to wear it on special occasions.
