Hello Ladies,
I was just wondering if anyone has taken the childbirth and breast feeding classes at LIJ medical center? I'm giving birth there in May and was wondering if they were any good. I'm having a c section but would like to take the classes anyway. Any info would be great!
Thanks!
Re: LIJ medical center childbirth classes? Ftm
The class is definitely worth it! I took it about two years ago prior to birth of my son as recommended by my OB and it was very helpful. The RN who taught my class worked per diem in L&D and Maternity at LIJ, too, so she was filled with great info about the hospital. It was nice to meet some other couples who were due around the same time, too, and take a maternity unit tour as part of the class. The instructor did talk about C/S delivery in one of the classes -- and besides, the Lamaze breathing techniques may help you should you go in to labor ahead of your scheduled C anyway.
I also really enjoyed the breastfeeding class -- the RN/lactation consultant who taught that class ended up being the same one who came in to my hospital room after my son was born to check in on how I was doing and help me both establish breastfeeding and operate the pump (I used that at night when my son was in the NICU). The class was helpful, and postpartum the whole staff of lactation consultants -- in regular maternity and in NICU -- were the best.
Good luck!
Thank you so much for getting back to me. My OBGYN recomended another place called the new baby belly, but they seemed to be very exspensive. They never mentioned I could get the classes through the hospital. My mom mentioned when she was pregnant she took the classes through the hospital so I wanted to check it out. I also liked the idea of getting a tour of the hospital before we had to go for the delivery. I also liked the fact that the beastfeeding class was included.
I'm glad they were so helpful. I'm really happy to be giving birth in that hospital. I've heard nothing but good things. I'm from queens so my other alternative is Jamaica Hospital, so not a good place to be. I'm going to call them to check it out. Thanks again!
