Colonial Williamsburg?

Hey there- I am a Texas Nestie/Bumpie. We are planning a vacation to the DC area and are going to spend a couple of days in Williamsburg.

There are SO many lodging options online, I am hoping one of you can give me some suggestions? A B&B would be great and close to the colonial/historic area.

Thanks!

  • Most of the lodging options in Williamsburg are very motelish.  If you really want to be close, I would stay at the Williamsburg Lodge - it is super cute and walking distance to the historic part of town. I am not sure of the price though. Most of the other hotels around are pretty similar - ie basic. I don't know of any B&Bs.

  • The most affordable and family friendly Colonial Williamsburg hotels are the Woodlands (which is on a shuttle service that takes you to the historic area) and the Governor's Inn (which is walking distance but across a busy road and only open seasonally).  You can get some GREAT package deals with CW hotels and admission tickets.

I agree with the PP that there are mostly chain-type hotels in the Williamsburg area, some of them quite affordable although you will need to drive and then park at CW.  But it gives you flexibility to go other places as well (Busch Gardens, Jamestown, Yorktown, Outlet Malls, etc.).  One nice B&B is the Newport House (full disclosure, I casually know the owners which is why I know that it is nice inside!) which could be walking distance from the Historic Area.  The owners also teach colonial dance (which is how I know them) which could be a lot of fun for your family!

Have fun, it's a great place to visit with family!
