I'm so excited - I was just offered my first post-baby role, and it's a good one! I will be playing Celia in As You Like It this July!
It's a really cool idea for a production. The director is gathering four acting couples from my area and casting each as one of the romantic couples in the show! DH will be playing Oliver, so I get to fall in love with him all over again :-D
This will be good motivation to keep my mind sharp enough to memorize iambic pentameter and get my body in good enough shape to take on an outdoor show...having just performed in As You Like It last summer (as Phebe, in Arkansas), I can safely say it's not an easy task. But I'm so beyond stoked right now!!
Okay, off to start memorizing now...I figure the sooner, the better...
Re: AW: I just got cast in a play!!
HOLY SMOKES! I had no idea you were into that sort of stuff, Mincks! (Shows how much I pay attention while lurking, LOL.) CONGRATULATIONS!
I SO miss doing theatre work. Haven't done any since graduating with my theatre degree in 2003. *sigh*
Thank you! DH and I actually met working on a production of A Midsummer Night's Dream, so we're big ol' theatre nerds in our house.
Is there much theatre where you live? We have a crazy amount for such a small city (Richmond, VA). It has been hard to participate while pregnant, but I've been bartending at one theatre and attending whatever I can. It's fun just to usher a show every now and then and see it for free :-D
Oddly, yes, there is. (We live not far from Research Triangle Park, and the hubs works at UNC-Chapel Hill.) The issue is two-fold: One, I lost confidence when everything I tried for (be it tech, directing, or acting) went to someone else, and two, the community around here tends to be rather clique-ish. If you don't already know someone, the likelihood of you having an "in" is very low. Outside of college shows, anyway. (Which is SO DUMB, considering most of the productions are unpaid.)
I confess, while acting was my first love of theatre, I really do miss directing the most. Perhaps its because being in charge appeals to my inner Ms. Bossy Pants. *rofl*
It's so neat that you share that love with your husband, though. While John loves going to the theatre and supports the arts whenever he can, he's not much for participating. That was always my thing. Though, he is HIGHLY appreciative of my carpentry skills, which I developed in theatre.
The plan is indeed to have it in a park! I'm not sure which one, though. I'm so excited - I love outdoor theatre. There's always a ton in Richmond, and there is some action in Petersburg and Colonial Heights, too - come visit :-D
... I perform 5 days a week. My most demanding role so far is acting like the people I work with don't annoy the crap out of me.. someone hand me an Oscar.. trust me I earnt it lately lol.
On a serious note..congrats, It's cool that you have something you enjoy to look forward to and keep your mind stimulated.

I haven't done anything like that since School ....unless Role Playing games and online whorin counts
RPGs TOTALLY count. Haha.
Congrats! Isn't it strange to think of things that will be happening in the not-to-distant future that will involve planning around an outside baby?!?
