Can you wear contacts?

Can you keep your contacts in during birth, whether regular birth or c-section?  Almost all my friends who wear contacts post pictures of them in the hospital wearing glasses...and they never wear glasses.

Im not comfortable in mine so im hoping keeping my contacts in is not a big deal.

Re: Can you wear contacts?

  • I'm not sure about a c-section.  I had a long labor, and finally was able to sleep every once in a while, so I took mine out so that I didn't have to worry about sleeping in them.  I don't think it would have been a big deal to leave them in though.

  • I'm pretty sure my sister-in-law kept hers in for all 3 of her kids. She had regular births, no C- sections.
  • I left mine in, I hate wearing my glasses and am legally blind without them!

  • I'm not sure about c-sections, but I could wear them for my vaginal delivery. I did, however, wear my glasses most of the time in the hospital because I tried to nap frequently.

  • I have night and day contacts that I can sleep in, so I wore them for my vaginal birth

at one point they were prepping me for a c section but didnt even bother asking if I had contacts in.  not sure if thats always the case or because it was emergency.... I ended up giving birth vaginally and it wasn't an issue

  • I wore my contacts through both a vaginal & a c/s delivery. My drs each knew I was wearing them & said it was fine to keep them in.

  • I had a c-section (scheduled the day before delivery), and I wore my contacts. They never asked about it and I already had them in. I assume if they needed them to be out they would've brought it up.
  • You should be fine wearing them during a c-section,
  • I wear contacts and plan to wear them when I deliver. I will be bringing a spare pair of contacts in case mine get crazy and slip out or have to be removed. And I will bring my glasses as backup. Just be prepared for either and you'll be fine!

For my c-section I had to take them out.

I couldn't wear my glasses either until recovery.
