Colic and No Dairy? Repost from FB

I'm just wondering if anyone is off dairy due to colic/gas/gastro, etc.

  • I am!  No dairy, soy, nuts, citrus fruits, complex carbs in general (e.g. whole grains, cauliflower, broccolli, peppers, asparagus, beans) onions, chocolate, caffeine, garlic and egg whites - it sucks!  The doc told me to start adding foods gradually back in, but I'm terrified.  I've started slowly with almond and eggs whites this week - and I'm adding some spice back in too - I had some tamales earlier this week - they tasted so good!!!  DH is skeptical that the restricted diet is working (Pip still has some really bad days), but we're desperate and I figure I can always hit the ice cream after I finish BF in a couple of months.  I've been on the diet for about 5 weeks and I'll say it again, it sucks!

Jertie my dear, what in the Sam hill is left for you to eat? Meat and lettuce? You are a dedicated momma! I will no longer b!tch about my dairy and soy elimination!

  • I posted a brief reply on FB, but I'm only eating 15 foods right now and it has helped a ton! I've been responding to a thread on the Dec 11 BMB re: soy and dairy free. There may be some helpful info for you in there. I will try to link when I get in a computer but I think it's still on the first page. I'm happy to help if you have questions.

I would say that we are done with colic as a result of the diet. This past week has been really good and she doesn't scream 24/7 anymore.

  • I am as well and seems to really cut down on her gassiness/fussiness. That's pretty much her only symptom of a dairy allergy
  • I have cut out all dairy for almost 4 months now because of gas. DS was up for hours each night with gas, and since I cut it out that never happens. He's still up a lot at night, but he's not in pain from the gas like he was before.

Ha!  No lettuce - leafy greens are also out. Tongue Tied  It's extremely limiting.  I've switched over to things like coconut milk and I've made stuff like rice pudding for breakfast.  I've been eating lots of berries, potatoes, pork (mmmm bacon!!) - it's getting better now that I have a couple of options, but I would love to have an orange or some nachos!

As a side note - I just noticed your LO's picture in your siggy - that is a beautiful baby and that picture just made me smile from ear to ear!!
