How Far Is Your RE Office?

Just wanted to find out how far everyone commutes to see their RE?  Since we all spend SO much time there, I just wanted to know if I'm the only one making a long and stressful commute at least a few times a week.

Little vent...yesterday, I left work early to drive to the 30 miles to my RE appointment at 3:55.  I live in the suburbs of Phoenix and any freeway at rush hour driving into downtown Phoenix is mostly a parking lot.  I made it to my appt. 5 minutes late and was all stressed out.  I know the driving to and from causes me so much stress...not good!  Super Angry  I'm making DH drive me home from my IUI next week, so I can sit stress free in the passenger seat.

Happily married Since May 2008. TTC#1 Since May 2010.

  • Wow...many of you drive MUCH further than me!  I should be fortunate that I don't have to make the 100+ mile commute many of you do.  My commute takes me about 40 minutes without traffic, but an hour and half in traffic.

Just a side note...this year when I was doing my taxes I saw that you can write off mileage to and from doctors appointments.  I'm trying to keep a log of the miles I drive so I can write it off on my taxes next year.  Just wanted to pass that info along because every little bit helps.

  • My RE has 3 different offices. The one I usually go to is about 20 min. But Yesterday I drove over an hour to her other office. That doesn't happen very often though.

  • My previous RE was only about 10 minutes from my house.  But I switched REs and now travel 67 miles each way (about an hour drive there) - luckily it is all highway and super easy drive (I turn up the radio and sing!)

However, depending on if I have to go for a monitoring appointment on a Saturday or Sunday during beach season it could take well over an hour. To get to the office where they do the ER/ET (the main office) it takes a little under 2 hours.

  • 34 miles, 40 minutes NO traffic.  I don't consider mine long at all but I used to drive 45 miles to work one way so it's not that big of a deal for me.  Kudos to those who drive MUCH farther.  Remembering you might make our drive easier when it's stressful.

  • I am also very blessed. I live about 35-40 minutes away from a major medical center where my RE is located. And, if something with him doesn't work out (I'm giving him the side-eye for some things he told me at my first appointment about Clomid monitoring), there is another major hospital about 50-60 minutes away and I could go to an RE there too. Compared to the distances other people have to drive, I am not complaining at all.

  • I'm extremely lucky in that my RE office is in the same medical complex where I work.  They are just in a different building, so I am able to pop over for ultrasounds, etc and only be gone from work for 15-30 mins at a time.  The lab I use for blood draws is also in the complex so it is exceptionally easy.  I would be able to do it otherwise though since I am not able to take any significant time off without notice from work.

  • If my appt happens to fall on a Tues or Thurs I can go to the satellite office that is across town from where I live, so 30 minutes with traffic. If its any other day though I have a 2 hour and 30 minute round trip to get up to the office and back. Those are not fun days b/c we have to wake up at 5am to be out the door by 15 til 6, so we can try and beat as much rush hour traffic as possible. Yuck!

  • While I only have about 15 miles one way, I'm in the Chicago suburbs and my RE, Endo., Gyne, and Hematologist(all trying to get my preggo!!!) are in the downtown Chicago area....and my appts. are usually during rush hour so it takes around an hour each way. I'm moving even further away next month too...but its worth it to be under care of people who know what they're doing :)
