I had a thought as I was falling asleep last night...

that frightened me slightly, but theres nothing I could do about it anyways.

After my LMP, but prior to my BFP, somewhere around 1 1/2 to 2 weeks pregnant I had an x-ray done. They covered up my belly area with that heavy blanket, and they did ask if I was pregnant, but DH and I had only DTD once, and it was well before my O date (about 5-6 days) so I thought I was safe saying "no."

All the u/s tests, bloodwork have come back normal, but I know that if theres anything wrong because of the x-ray I won't know til he's born.

Am I over-thinking?  (Quite possibly.)

  • I wouldn't worry about it too much, I'm sure millions of women get x-rays before they know they are pregnant. I don't want to scare you but x-rays generally don't cause birth defects but instead has been linked to leukemia in childhood. In the horrible unfortunate event that your child did get leukemia how could you ever know for sure it was from that one x-ray? I know it is easier said then done but I would try not to stress about!

  • I spoke to my doctor about x-rays a few years ago and he said that they use so much less radiation now than they used to so it's not that much of a concern anymore for pregnancy. They still ask because they would like to avoid it if possible just to be safe, but most likely there isn't anyting to worry about.

  • Not so long ago in the 70s they used x-rays instead of ultrasounds when needed. It wasn't safe, but if all those babies survived to live long and healthy lives then I'm sure you'll be ok.

Plus, I doubt most things you might have done to your body that early would have little to no effect.

  • I had a chest xray a little over a week before my BFP, I panicked a little too.  I asked my Dr about it and he told me not to worry, it's no big deal.

  • No reason to worry about it.  You're not actually pregnant until 3 weeks, so there was no one to harm in there.

  • Totally overthinking it.  A) I am sure you are fine, B) too late now, right?!

  • I wouldn't worry about it to much. I have to go to the dentist this Thursday and he wanted a note from my OB saying that it was safe to go in (just six month check up but new dentist so might need an x-ray). The doctor faxed me a note saying that it ok to get an x-ray to diagnose a problem if I wear a lead apron. So if it's ok to do one now you should be fine.
