Newborn Photography?

I am a FTM and I have always thought that I would get newborn pictures, but I am having trouble finding one that isn't outrageously priced. Some are charging near the amount I paid for my wedding pictures which was in the thousands! Are you planning to have or have had newborn pictures done? What are you willing to pay?

I just plan on going to a studio place like picture people or portrait innovations that way its not too pricey and I just have to pay for what I want.

I've noticed the huge price tag on newborn photography, too! Luckily a relative is a photographer and the newborn session was given to us as a baby gift

But I've seen prices around $500.

(adding to my reply on newborn board) you should look into jcpenny or sears studio if there is one by you, my friend had her daughters done there and they came out beautiful!

We paid for BellaBaby pictures in the hospital ($140 for images on a CD, not that many pics - maybe 20) and we're doing a pro shoot at home in a couple of weeks too ($350 for pics on a CD again but about an hour of shooting this time around so lots more photos).

Keep looking and you can find someone priced where you want. A lot goes into newborn photo sessions between posing, feedings etc which is why the price tag is a bit higher. Good luck!

Our photographer does a kids package that includes 5 sessions (we did newborn, 6 , 12, 18 and 24 months). It is $500 to start plus $100 each shoot. Then we buy the cd separately to get all the pics. She comes to our house or any location we pick.

I do like that my photographer will come to me, especially for the newborn pics. My baby nurses round the clock and I don't love the germs in the studio places. I think you should look around and maybe find an up and coming photographer that will be cheaper .

I want to say ours is around 200 or so. That includes the cd. We pay for a photographer to do pics nb, 3, 6, 9, and 12 mos and then once a year thereafter. I much prefer it to studio pics as we get more time with the photographer, more images, and it's not really much more than JCP or another studio considering I want the images on cd, and that's pricey. Check on your local board for recs--though nb photography can be pricey, there are a lot of affordable options.

We are having our pics done by one of the moms from work. She runs a side business out in house studio. She did our mat pictures knowing we were coming back after, we did some shots planning to match them later with baby shots. She charged us $50 dollars last time for half am hour and 40 digital proofs last time. This time it will either be the same or $75 for 3/4 of am hour.

We did the Bella Baby hospital photos as well - didnt really have a choice to opt out, but we ended up not buying them cuz of the price. I really loved them too! We have a friend who is starting a photography business though who wants to add baby photography to his portfolio - so he is going to do it for free. If you are comfortable aallowing them to use some of the photos for advertisement, you may find a few photographers on craigslist who are just starting out and might give you a fair deal.

If you want them done you should get them done soon. Most newborn photographers will tell you they try to get them done within the first 10 days. They need to be sleeping long and hard to get some of the really good shots. FWIW my session cost me 145 to book the session and then the prints range in price from about $25 for a print to $50 for a digital print to $400 for all the digital prints.
