Early gender ultrasound... 16 weeks?

I am pregnant with twins and recieved an ultrasound at 7.5 weeks and another at 12.5 weeks and my next appointment I will be 16.5 weeks and thought for sure I would have another ulltraound, but I guess they are being super safe to be sure of an accurate anatomy scan, so they are making me wait somewhere betwen 18-20 weeks. Because I am having twins I am SO anxious to start planning so I think I am going to go to an ultrasound spa "becoming mom" to find out thier genders on my husbands  birthday when I will be EXACTLY 16 weeks. Is this too early? They said you have to be 16 weeks for them to do the scan and if they arent 100 percent sure, they will let you keep coming back for free until they are sure. I figure it can't hurt... Have any of you other Momma's found out at 16 weeks? Was it accurate? Thanks!

Re: Early gender ultrasound... 16 weeks?

  • We found out at 16 weeks that we were having boys. Our u/s tech was pretty sure of herself and it turned out to be right!

  • Depending on the quality of u/s equipment, you can certainly tell that early. Especially if it's boys. Good luck to you. What a cool birthday gift.

  • i agree with PP, that if it's good quality equipment they can tell.   i knew the sexes via CVS very early on and then at my 16 week scan the tech told me without me telling her what we already knew....she also showed me the obvious pics of their "parts."  i think a good tech and a good machine should give you the answers you need:)  so fun!!

  • I hope so mine is this week, and I'll just be over 16 w!
  • external sex organs are formed by 12 weeks- which is why some get an early guess at the NTS (I did with my singleton and twins- and all were right).  At 16w they can tell for sure- if they get a good view, which is always the trick - even at 20 weeks, sometimes babies are shy :)

    good luck!

I used to be Goldie_locks_5 but the new nest is so screwed up that I was forced to start over.

  • I had my NT Scan at 16 weeks, and they could definitively tell that we are having boy/girl twins.

  • I found out at 15 weeks and the tech had to do four babies. She was right on all of them! It's so exciting to find out what you are having!

  • we found out at 16 weeks, but we didn't tell anyone till the a/s just to be safe. but they have stayed girls the whole time.

  • I asked my tech at my 12 week NT scan if she had an early guess. She told us what she thought they were - with a certainty behind it.

She even went as far as to go to my mother and say "so how do you feel about being a grandmother to two girls"

I'm 16 weeks this coming week and we go in for another ultrasound so I'm hoping they will confirm!

    We shall see...

But from what I hear, they can most often tell at this point.

  • We found out at 16 weeks and they were right. Like PP said, if they have good equipment and good views they should be able to tell. I did wait until after or 20 week scan to buy lots of pink!

  • We were told boy and maybe girl at 16 weeks.  Baby B didn't cooperate well. Same thing happened at 20 weeks.  At 21  weeks, baby B was a he!  2 boys it is and has stayed.  Good luck.
  • They told us the twins' genders at our NT scan (second u/s @ 16 weeks) and there was no doubt about their genders then!
  • We found out at 16 weeks that ours were both boys, our MFM told us not to go out and buy all blue, but now at 24 weeks they are totally still boys! :)  Good luck!

  • We were told our genders at 16 weeks and at 26 weeks, they are still girls! I think as long as the technology of the equipment is good, then it will be pretty darn accurate. Good luck!
  • We found out with the triplets at 15 weeks, they were totally correct.
