Thoughts on girl name

HELP!

My husband and I are having a hard time picking out a name for our baby girl.  The only name we both like is Ali (or Allie) Elizabeth.  What do you think of that name and spellings?  I like really girly, sweet names that aren't too common and my husband doesn't like anything that is too unusual or sounds made up.  Please, give me your opinions and/or other name suggestions along those lines.  Thank you so much!

Re: Thoughts on girl name

  • I would absolutely not go with Ali.

You're going to have people pronouncing it like Muhammad Ali.

Allie Elizabeth is pretty, but I don't love giving "nickname" first names. Allie isn't a very professional-sounding name for a resume, you know? Cutesy for a baby, not for a woman. But that's just my opinion :)

Also - what is your 1 year old's name? That will help us to guess a bit more re: your taste.

  • I like the name Allie but is sounds like a nickname and not a formal name. I am sure people will ask her what her full name is all the time. I like Elizabeth and am using it as mn too. How about Allison, Alexandria, Alicia and using the nickname Allie.
  • I think it's cute and I don't see it being an issue when she's an adult.

    And I definitely prefer Allie.

  • What's wrong with Allison or Alyson and calling her Allie or Aly? I don't think using Ali as a full formal first name is a great idea. Looks too much like Muhammad Ali.

  • I am an Ali.  Rarely do I have people pronounce it like Mohammad Ali does.  99% of the time people get it right. My full name is Alicia, but I have never, every gone by it. I have been Ali since the day I was born, I actually really dislike it when people call me Alicia. Ali has suited me well, so I am definitely a fan.

  • I think Allie Elizabeth is great, and that it meets all your criteria. I much prefer Allie to Allison. I do not, however, like Ali (at all!).
