First time symptom - OB rant. TMI beware

So today I went to pee today and noticed that when I wiped it was super slick down there. I looked at the toilet paper and noticed some unusual discharge. It was a little glop of mucus. I've never had this happen throughout my whole pregnancy and was worried it may have been a piece of my plug (told ya....TMI). I call the doctors office and of course it takes them 2 hours to call me back. So I tell the nurse that I had some mucus discharge and she said..."well...your going to have an increase of discharge in pregnancy". She had a smart ass tone to it. Then she said...you could have a yeast infection...was it bloody?  I said..."no...clear". She said..."did it have a foul odor?" I told her no...just snotty looking clear discharge. She said...do you think it was your water breaking?  At this point I'm thinking "what part of snotty discharge do you not understand". I tell her that it was not my water because it was just discharge. She said," well....do you think you need to come in?". At this point I was annoyed and said..."well you are the medical professional. You tell me If I need to come in or not". She said..."well just stay hydrated and keep your feet up...we are on call if you need us". Wow. I was annoyed. So has anyone else had clear snotty discharge?  I'm wondering if it was a little bit of my plug

  • I'd be peeved at the nurse's responses to all of that! I don't know a whole lot, but that sounds like the ever famous "snail trail" that I've been waiting to see. But again, I'm pretty clueless. I hope all is well (and I'm sure it is).

  • All the time, totally normal at this point in pregnancy. The plug tends to be a whoooooole lot, though I lost mine all at once.

  • My plug with Juliana came off in pieces and they were sorta like little rolled up bits of rubber cement with a color of some kind to them. I have days when it's like a snail has inhabited my vagina and others where it's dry as the Sahara, so I think that it's definitely just discharge and unless you have any other tell-tale symptoms, you're fine with not going in. That nurse was a twat though, I agree.

I think this is the advice I get for everything I ask the dr about.

  • Sometimes I have little globs of mucus. It's probably just discharge.

And ditto huahua - "lay on your left side, put your feet up, drink some water, go to L&D if you think you need to be seen." lol. I don't even call anymore.

  • Crotch snot is completely normal. Disgusting, yes, but normal.

  • I had the same thing ( definitely mucus ) and called the dr office.  Took the nurse all day to call me back but she said it's normal at this point and if I start having more of it or contractions to call asap.  She made sure at the next appointment that I hadn't been having any more issues.  Thankfully it was a one time only thing.

agreed. I have totally had this on more than one occasion.

Original poster: As a labor and delivery nurse I have to thank-you for not coming to the hospital for this reason. I have had people save the mucus on toilet paper and bring it in. EWWW!!!
