This is super cute, but is it necessary?

I found this super cute spout cover:

I'm just wondering if it's really necessary though?

Re: This is super cute, but is it necessary?

  • I don't think it's really necessary. DD's bumped her head on the tub faucet a couple of times but never hard enough to actually hurt herself.

  • shouldnt you be with your LO when they take a bath anyway? at least until they are old enough to be trusted in a bath alone?

its cute and if you like it, get it.  im sure ive bought plenty of things that arent necessary but i liked em anyway so i got em :)

  • We have this and I really like it. I did a lot of research for the best spout cover and this was the highest rated and cutest without being too cutesy. My son loves it too and it's really easy to put on. For a long time I wondered if it was necessary, and then he slipped in the tub and would've hit his head hard on the faucet. But the whale saved him from getting hurt. So, it's not a necessity, but is nice to have nonetheless.

  • We've registered for this.  I don't know that it's completely necessary, but I'll feel better having it.

  • We don't have one even though DD#1 moves around a ton in the tub, including standing up and walking.

But when the new babe comes, I will probably get something because I can monitor DD#1 closely now, but obviously, you can't monitor two kiddos as closely as one.

  • I have a spout cover and we don't use since it doesn't even fit on the spout. But I'll keep it for the new house.

  • I have it and have used it for every bath since DD was sitting up on her own. It has been totally necessary for us. I can't count how many times she's stood up in the tub to grab a toy and slipped or has stood in the shower while I showered and played at the end of the tub near the faucet. That thing has kept her from hitting the faucet several times.

I was a nanny for years before becoming a mom, and I've actually never seen a tub that kids use NOT have some sort of faucet cover. Its true that you should watch your kids while they're bathing, but once you have two kids in the tub at the same time, accidents happen, especially when wet, slippery kids try to stand and grab something. Kids tend to be fascinated with the drain, faucet, and the metal piece that you push/pull to turn on the shower, so they like to hang out by the faucet when they're in the tub.

  • Not necessary but why not? Unless you are on a tight budget.

  • We have an Elmo spout cover.  It's not necessary but it did save DS's head a time or two.

  • We have something similar. ds is rather interested in sticking his hands and what not up the water spout so for us it was necessary.

  • We have this and I think it's good to have. My LO is all over the place in the tub and pulls herself up now. She's definitely bumped herself on it a few times. I'm always watching her but bumps do happen, even supervised.

  • We didn't get one until DD started standing up in the tub about a few months ago.  she has fallen a few times, with me sitting RIGHT there.  She is facinated with the faucet so this gave me a little peace of mind.  It is not necessary in the beginning, but once you have a crazy toddler you may want to consider it.

  • Not really necessary, but not a bad thing to have. I was gifted two and neither fit my spout thought.

  • we have this much cheaper version from walmart & in our house yes totally necessary also it helps to keep him from messing with the spout in general.

  • Not 100% necessary.  We have a frog one on the tub faucet though.  I like that it's not easy for DS to get to the piece for the shower.  He also likes to talk to the frog, which is cute.

  • Necessary? No.  However, it is cute and useful when your little person bonks his/her head on the water spout during bathtime.  Also, it's pretty cheap (I think ours came from Target and was less than $10).... so why not at least register for it.
  • You definitely won't need it for the first yearish.
