I don't know if it's because it's an election year or what, but recently I have been reading so many news stories that make me fear for the future of this country.
Yesterday I read an absolutely heartbreaking article about a town in which 9 (or maybe 13?) CHILDREN/TEENS comitted suicide due to bullying. Most of these kids were either know to be or were suspected to be gay. In 1 town! And to top it off, local churches were outwardly opposing support groups that were trying to be formed in the schools.
Then there is all of this legislation trying to get passed further limiting women's rights. I don't need the government to tell me how and what to do with my own body.
It just makes me sick to think that the country is going backwards in some ways. I'm one of the most socially liberal people I know, so maybe that's why I feel so strongly about these issues, but I feel so helpless and I'm not sure what I can do to change it.
Thanks for letting me vent.
Re: Some days I hate the world we live in
I'm right there with you! It makes me sad that our kids will grow up in this world.
If I raise two tolerant well informed children I'll feel accomplished, religion or not I do not feel its anyone's right to judge the belief of another person. It's hypocritical and drives me crazy. I also can't stand men who think they know what's right for a woman's body.
Oh good, I'm not the only one that's doing this! I feel like it's silly but I selectively tune out most of the news/political stuff because I get too worked up.
