I got to practice with a fake infant at Buy Buy Baby

So I was browsing Buy Buy Baby this morning, and got really into looking at the baby carriers. I've been thinking about buying a Baby K'Tan and they had them, so I tried one on.

THEN, I spy a fake, life-like baby that you can use to really try them out! LOL I felt really silly, but it was nice to feel what it's really like to wear a baby in one. And I'm really proud of myself that I was able to figure it out pretty quickly.

I liked the K'Tan a lot! Now I'm wishing I had tried on a Moby Wrap, though I think I've decided against getting one anyway since I hear they can be hot. And it WILL be hot here in July/August/Sept.

In other babywearing news, I got a used Ergo on Craigslist today! Woot!

For anyone considering babywearing, how many carriers are you planning to get? I'm thinking maximum 2 for us. I can see myself getting carried away and they're not cheap.

  • Naive FTM question:  Why would you get more than one? DH and I both like the K'Tan and he even said he'd be comfortable wearing a Moby wrap if he needed to, so I figured we'd just get one or the other, or even just by several yards of jersey fabric and make my own Moby wrap.

Well I'm a FTM so I'm not sure either, but I think wraps like the K'Tan and Moby are ideal for little babies, and when they get bigger a structured carrier (Like an
Ergo or Beco) are easier on your back. That's just my understanding!

Ah, that makes sense to me. I guess I'd just wait and see what feels best when the kid gets too big for whatever I'm using. I had a hard time messing with that stuff now because my belly is in the way.

  • The Moby is great when they are little, but get to the point where they stretch a lot at about 15 lbs.  But the soft structured carriers like the Ergo work best when babies are older, so it makes sense to have two.  I want to try out a Boba when the baby gets to that point.

  • I like the K'Tan, too, but you might have issues sharing with your Dh since you have to get the right size for the K'Tan. The Moby isn't sized, though.

I'm planning to get a K'Tan for when she's small and I already have a Beco Butterfly for when she outgrows the K'Tan.
