Homemade baby applesauce

wholesome babyfood says the best way is to bake, and it says to do so with skins on, obviously.  But what about the skins when I need to puree them?  Do they come off easily? The skins shouldn't be left when I puree, right?  Should I just steam them?  TIA.

Re: Homemade baby applesauce

  • Huh, I've never done it like that. I always peeled, cored and sliced the apples then simmered them on the stovetop for a few hours until they were soft, then purred them

  • Agreed, I have only done it like the pp mentioned.

  • I've always steamed them with no problems.
  • The skins are the best part of the apples.  I removed my cores and then cooked the apples, pureed and canned them.  You could freeze or whatever.  I ate some.  It was really good and the peels really aren't an issue.  Just be sure to puree it well.

That's just my preference though.  I didn't want to waste the peels.
