I know this is something to ask my doctor, but she wrote down at the last appt that I want a RCS and said we'd talk about it later.
Fast forward to yesterday's conversation with DH, where I really upset him (not on purpose) because I said that it may be a week or even two (?) before the due date. He's gone with work until the 23rd of July and (without even talking to a superior) says that he won't be able to make it if it's before the 23rd, and I'll have to find someone else to do it for me. Sorry, but the reason I picked this OB is because my mom works with her in the OR and told me that she a) is a brilliant surgeon, and b) has lovely bedside manner (which she does). I'm not getting someone else to deliver this baby for me. Barring my OB going on holidays or anything like that.
My due date is August 2nd. I don't want to have a RCS on July 30th, since that's the day my son was born and died. Can anyone tell me approximately when they'll schedule one?
Thanks ![]()
Re: How close to your DD do they schedule a repeat c/s?
Every doctor does this differently. Ask at your next appointment. I'm sure, given your need to avoid a sad date (so sorry!), that your OB would be open to getting you scheduled or at least giving you a timeframe.
My OB in Austin scheduled my repeat c/s at my 16 week appointment. My new doc up here said we'd wait until late 2nd tri to get a date nailed down.

Talk openly with your doctor about your husbands work schedule and the situation regarding the loss of your son. I am 100% sure that, barring an emergency, they will work something out for you. I'm so sorry for your previous loss, and I wish you all the best in your current pregnancy.
My hopsital will not allow any rcs or induction before 39wks unless there is a medical reason for it. My OB's office does all rcs the week you turn 39wks. So if you are due 8/2, the earliest my practice would schedule it is 7/26.
My practice will let you pick the exact date at your 28wk appt through.
My repeat c/s was 39 weeks to the day. My hospital and OB won't schedule them any earlier unless medically necessary. I was high risk, so if a problem had developed late in the 3rd trimester they would have allowed a scheduled c/s as early as 38 weeks, otherwise it would have been labeled as an emergency c/s. Thankfully all went well for me.
Hope that you are able to work with your OB to find a date that works for all involved.
My OB scheduled c-sections after 39 weeks and I had my choice of Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday in that last week. So my RCS was scheduled at 39w2d, which was the earliest possible date within those restrictions. As it turned out I went into labor a few days early. I doubt your OB would schedule your c/s before the 23rd, barring any issues that would require delivery before 39 weeks. So the only question is whether you'll be able to schedule it before the 30th, which you'd want to do in case you go into labor before your RCS date, but that gives you a few days between 39 weeks and the 30th to work with, so you'll probably be fine.
But: I went into labor with DS at 38w4d, which I was totally not expecting because DD was so late. I'd try to get your DH to reschedule or opt out of his work trip because having a c/s scheduled doesn't prevent you from going into labor before then. I was pretty chill about DH doing stuff in the third tri, but regardless of how you plan to give birth, he's cutting it really close.
