Pregnant after IF

Should I call my nurse?

I know I shouldn't but the heartbeat of 78 is really freaking me out.   I can't stop thinking about it and I'm really worried.  My next appointment isn't until two weeks from tomorrow.   If you were me, would you call the nurse tomorrow for reassurance and/or try to push for some sort of monitoring next week?

Argh!

Re: Should I call my nurse?

  • I wouldn't wait two weeks.  You need the heartbeat to be over 120 to be released at my clinic, and they want to see you weekly until that point.  No way 2 wks.

  • At the beginning of week six, the average embryo is only about 2mm, according to my pregnancy book.

And according to this site the average HB at 2mm is only 75: https://miscarriage.about.com/od/immediatemedicalconcerns/qt/normalfetalhr.htm

So it sounds like you are right on track for 6w0d.

  • I would call.  2 weeks is along time to wait when you are nervous about something.  So far through this pregnancy, when something is weighing on my mind or concerning me I have called.  And I have never regretted calling. Good luck.

  • I agree with PP.  If you want to call and you think it will make you feel better, call.  That's what they are there for.

  • If your using a home Doppler this is most likely your heart beat your hearing. Your baby is too small for your Doppler to be picking up the heart beat right now. 78 is normal for an adult. and at 6 weeks its hard to see the heart beat in the office. There is a reason you have to wait the 2 more weeks. If calling will make you feel better then call, you pay a lot of money for your dr to answer your concerns, but please don't worry, this is normal and most likely YOUR heart beat your hearing! :o)

Started TTC in 2006, LOTS of trying, and trying, and 7 rounds of IVF with 13 embryos, 2 perfect little boys and 5 loses....
All finished with babies, started to make diet changes, Keto, to be MORE for my kids, lost 30 pounds, still going, and 3 months in, I had a natural cycle, and then ovulated... Hubs and I are going to see what happens now... Maybe a natural pregnancy? After everything we have been through? Or just a return to normal hormones? We shall see what the future holds!

  • We didn't even see the heartbeat when I went in for my SCH at 6 weeks. It was there at my follow-up a week later and was 125, which was fine.

  • I second what the previous poster said. If it will make you feel better then call, but don't be concerned.  My RE's office said only 50 percent of pregnancies have a HB at all at 6 weeks. If they found it on an u/s, then it was probably just barely starting.  If you are using a doppler, then that is not your baby's heartbeat as no doppler will be able to pick up a fetal HB at 6 weeks.

  • Call. My RE was so mad at me that I woke up at 2 in the morning bleeding and didn't call the emergency number. He said they could have told me I was okay and I wouldn't have had to stress for 6 hours until my appointment. He said it's better to call and get reassurance than be worried because that can hurt the baby!

I'd be very careful about saying this. Yes, lots of undue stress can be detrimental for you and baby, but being worried about something pregnancy-related for 6 hours is NOT going to hurt your baby.

  • I would call your nurse, if it will help ease your mind. If it makes you feel any better, I had weekly ultrasounds with my RE until 12 weeks and I didn't ever get a bpm measurement. We saw the heartbeat at our 7 week u/s and then heard it for the first time at our NT Scan with the OB at 12w3d.

We still haven't heard anything, but this is what the u/s technician said this morning.

If this is what the tech told you and no one said any thin about it being to slow then i for sure think your in the clear! I remember the HB being super slow until about 8-9 weeks, and we did get a home doppler and after 12 weeks we have been able to hear the Hb and its always moving up and down. Some days its around 140 some 170. Just depends on how active baby is when you listen.

For now, your good! And in 2 weeks when you go back in you will see your bean, and the fastest heart beat you have ever seen in your life! It will be amazing! And this 2ww is going to be harder that the 2ww to test day! Feel better, dont stress, and step away from Google! :o)

  • a home doppler at 6 weeks pregnant- is not good to use. the doctor's wouldn't even use it at 6 weeks. Like pp said- if you are questioning what is going on, call your dr. My dr didn't use  a doppler used until I was 16 weeks-she said because you can sometime hear your own heartbeat (and it freaks you out, cause it is slow, and also, because sometimes you can't find baby's heartbeat- and that freaks people out too) they rely  on u/s for a while.  Do what you need to do to feel better.
