1st Trimester

weight loss

Hello all. I was 10 weeks on Monday. I have my first doctors appointment this coming Monday so will ask then but wanted to find out if anyone else has had the same issue

I have read the many woman experience weight loss, due to morning sickness and unable to keep any food down. I have lost almost 10 pounds since learning I was pregnant at about 5 weeks. I fortunately (and for those of you that are experiencing don't hate me) have not had morning sickness. I have had maybe 2 or 3 times where I feel a bit nauseous for a few hours but nothing too extreme where I am unable to eat food. I just went on a 5 night cruise and was convinced I must have gained weight since I had eaten a 3 to 4 course meal every night but when I stepped on the scale I had lost another 1 and 1/2 pounds. I tried a different scale, convinced the digital one I have at home must be broken and on the old fashioned doctors office scale they have at my gym I had the same result.

Has anyone else experienced this? I am a little worried since I have not had an appointment yet. I have had no other symptoms to think anything is wrong but my mind still wanders.

Re: weight loss

  • Probably nothing to worry about, although you should definitely run it by your doctor.  Have you noticed a diminished appetite?  Personally I have had a lot of nausea but no vomiting.  Even though I'm not having trouble keeping food down, I am finding that nothing sounds good and I have no desire to eat throughout the day.  Good news is that your baby requires very little from you at this stage.  Keep taking your prenatal and try not to worry too much.

I don't think you need to worry.  I've lost 8 pounds in the last couple of weeks.  I've had some mild nausea but nothing too extreme.  2 of my good friends lost weight through they're pregnancies.  I'm not a doctor but the way that I understand it is you are actually eating for 2 and the baby is going to absorb calories.  I call it my "pregnancy diet"

  • Sorry, no idea what all that stuff is up above.  This is what I was trying to post.

  • With DD I ate like a horse and didn't get sick at all, but still lost 6 lbs in 1st tri (with nothing to lose). I didn't get back to pre pregnancy weight until 18 weeks pregnant.

  • I would run it by your dr. but I wouldn't worry. Your metabolism raises when you get pregnant so that could be why. I thought for sure I would have gained 5-7 lbs by now but have gained maybe 1 lb and I have been eating way more than I normally do and not exercising nearly at all until the last couple of weeks.

  • I have lost 5-6 lbs in the past 2 weeks. I gained about 5 in the beginning. I think it is all fine. As long as we don't do this in 2nd and especially 3rd tri.
  • I have lost 3 lbs since finding out 2 weeks ago. I eat when the "baby asks" and feel like I'm stuffing my face all the time. I definitely noticed I eat less food to get the same full feeling I used to, I'm just eating more often and drinking way more water. My sister also lost weight with her 2 pregnancies during the first trimester just bc of her snacking throughout the day. She never had morning sickness bad enough to make her not want to eat. I hope this brings you some comfort.
