Transverse Baby at 32 weeks

I had my 32 week appt yesterday and the OB said she thinks my baby is transverse (sideways), she said at my 36 week appt she is going to do an ultrasound to check the position of the baby. She said if he is I will have to meet with my Dr. and start thinking about C-section or moving the baby from the outside (which I've heard is very painful).

I did some research online and saw there are some tricks you can do to try to move the baby in the right direction. Have any of you tried these and if so did they work?

If your baby was transverse, did it move down on its own? I still have 8 weeks which seems like plenty of time to move, but the Dr was a little concerned.

Thanks!

Re: Transverse Baby at 32 weeks

  • "they" say not to worry until 36 weeks, which it sounds like your Dr. is shooting for.  External versions can work!  I just heard of a lady in my prenatal yoga class getting one and it worked... and she was fully breach!  Just think, you'll only have to go half that distance... (Sad attempt at light humor).  Hang in there and keep up posted!  Hopefully LO will go head down in the next few weeks !!!!

    Good luck!!

  • The baby definitely still has time to move. I'd try spinningbabies.com for some pointers on what positions help. I've also heard acupuncture can be really helpful.

  • I'm 32 weeks with a transverse baby as well. I'm not going to try anything to turn her. Call me crazy, but I'd prefer to have a c-section this time around. Good luck with yours though!
  • At our childbirth class, the nurse who taught it told a story about this woman who tried all of these techniques to get her baby to flip - when none of them worked, she tried them all at once, so she literally was in some sort of upside-down position, with a flashlight shining at the bottom of her bump (someone told her the baby would follow the light), playing mozart to her crotch (someone else told her the baby would follow the sounds of classical music).  None of this was working.  She went out to dinner and ordered a super garlicky, super spicy pasta dish, and the baby flipped around right away.  Of course this is a "true" story.  I'd say try anything that's recommended to you, no matter how silly, because who knows.  You do have time to try out different methods!

This is a great website. DS was transverse at my 37w appointment, doc sent me for an u/s to confirm, and in that few house I felt him flip. At the u/s he was indeed, head down. What I am trying o get t is not to worry right now. Baby has tons of time to flip, and flip, and then maybe even flip again.

  • You probably don't need to worry yet, but having a chiro do the webster technique might help, along with doing pelvic rocking. Mine was transverse and moved with some webstering.

  • I just had my appointment today and LO is transvere. OB said he wasn't going to worry about it until next appointment.  I think in the mean time I'm going to do some of the stuff on spinning babies and look for a chiropractor.

  • DD1 was transverse at 34 weeks.  She turned on her own and was head down by the time I was induced at 40 weeks.  I did try some of the exercises on spinningbabies.com.  IDK if that's what worked, but I got the result I wanted!
