***Thursday Random Thoughts***

Hey all! I've been lurking a lot more than posting lately (work=busy. ugh.) but I have a random, hopefully non-UO thought to share.

Here's mine: I've seen a lot of posts here lately asking questions that are so easily Google-able. I don't know why this gets under my skin so much. Does it just not occur to people to use Google?

Have something random to say that's not worthy of its own thread? Spill it here!

  • I am emceeing a pageant on Saturday that starts at 1pm, a break from 5 to 7, and then 7 to probably close to 10pm..  Ha.  I will be wearing an evening gown and heels when I'm not behind the podium, and my slippers when I am behind the podium.  I should have legs the size of tree stumps by the end of Saturday night.

I have lost my ever loving mind.

My issue with the notion of "Just F*cking Google It," or "Let Me Google That For You," is that while Google is great, there is no substitute (for me, anyway) for first-hand accounts from real people. (Yes, intellectually I know "real" people put that information up for Google to find. That's not what I mean.) When I'm looking for a recipe or a set of crafting instructions for something complicated, I don't rely solely on search engines to get the information I need; I put the question out there to see who has done said activity before and hope they will share their expertise with me. It's the combination of "hard facts" and anecdotal advice that gets me to the end result, not one or the other.

That being said, if it's something like the questions we see in 3rd tri a lot, like, "What's a mucus plug?" or "How long does early labor last?" then HELL YES, Google should be consulted, but more importantly, CALL YOUR BLOODY DOCTOR! I wholeheartedly agree some questions are better left OFF of public forums because the information is relatively easy to find.

  • As to my random thought of the day: I had the thought last night of, "What happens if my kid is completely alien to me?" That is to say, I can't relate to him because his interests and personality are so radically different from mine that it keeps us from connecting as mother and child? I already feel somewhat disconnected from this pregnancy as it is. (I think this was a defense mechanism because my symptoms have been SO AWFUL, and I didn't want to associate those feelings with Junior.) What happens if I can't be a good mom because I can't understand my kid?

  • I can't wait until I'm not pregnant to eat cheese like I normally do again. I LOVE cheese and it just stops me up now. Crying

And my idea of the perfect meal: wine, cheese, crackers, antipasto and whatever else I can find that I can munch on with cheese.

  • I'm wishing I had not packed such a small piece of homemade quiche - it's almost gone and that's making me sad....oh well.

Haha!  I have thought of that recently, too!  I bought a cute dress to wear to work a few weeks ago and now I can't wear it because I can't sit decently! :D

  • My random thought;

Everything I have put in my mouth today has been like a mouth-gasm.  In other words its like everything is the best ever!  I had a salad with beets on it and the beets were amazing.  On the side I had canteloupe and berries and they were unbelievable.  And the chicken salad that I had with it was amazing too!  I think my taste buds are in over drive.

  • I work from home, and about 10 mins ago I heard a phone in a room that I was not in doing the fast busy signal cause it was off the hook.  Again, I wasn't in the room at all today and there is no one else here.  Or is there...??

I agree with you that there's no substitute for conversation/dialogue, especially with something like pregnancy where there's so much uncertainty, and that's one reason why I love The Bump so much! I was referring more in my OP to the really simple factual questions that you're referring to in your 2nd paragraph.

  • Ah, then yes, I totally agree. Though, I will admit to moments of boneheadedness where my Google-fu fails me, on really simple things. *facepalm*

  • My random thought is that I hate my fat feet, I hate my fat legs, I hate my insurance company, and I am in a really bad mood. That, and the UO thread is annoying me today. I think everything is annoying me today. I need a nap and a cocktail, stat. I guess I have to settle for the nap... in 6 1/2 hours when I'm off work....

  • I hope to stop hating breastfeeding soon. Every time I bring DD up to my boob, all I can think is "I don't want to do this" and then let her chomp down on my sore sore nips, while I bite my lip or finger and wince.

Also, I know we have a new baby but I am already tired of DH's family hanging around my house. They are like squatters and they don't know when to leave and when my family comes, DH disappears like he is one of our cats, but I am expected to sit and visit and entertain when it is DH's family. My mom and sister came to visit today and now DH's brother and mom showed up. Get out of my house and let me visit with my family in peace.

PP hormones are no joke. I have spent the better part of the last two evenings breaking down for no good reason. It is pretty pathetic.

  • I usually read at least three books a week. It took me almost a week just to get through The Hunger Games. Combined with the way pregnancy is sapping my general brain power, I'm pretty sure Hooked on Phonics is in my future.

  • I got a pedicure on my lunch break today. It was the best thing ever. There was also a girl in the salon with her little baby in a stroller and when I walked by them the girl turned to her friend and said "Awww! She's so cute!" I wanted to hug her.

Plus she had a City Mini and it made me even more excited to use mine. :)

  • At my 2 week post0op appt yesterday I asked my OB about how long does it take for my tubal ligation to be effective and he ended the explanation of the procedure saying that there was a 1 in 200 chance of me getting pregnant.  At that point I looked at my double stroller where the boys were sleeping and said, "well, there is a 1 in 250 chance of having identical twins and look what happened" LOL
