Pumping

When an I start to pump and actually get something. I want to breast feed, but I don't think I am making enough to satisfy baby. I gave him formula last night because he was screaming so loud I was sure he was starving. I don't want to lose my supply by supplementing.  Any suggestions would be great!

Sorryabout the format and typos. Bumping from phone.

  • Has your milk come in yet? You will know it-- trust me! I wasn't getting a lot of milk until it came in, and then I felt like I could have filled up gallons!

Keep pumping every 3 hours or so and you will not lose your supply. I currently feed him both BM and formula and my supply is fine.

    Good luck!

  • He is 3 days old. I had a c-section and heard it can take a little longer for my milk to come in. If it's pretty obvious then I'm assuming mine hasn't.  I'm feeling better now that I was able to pump a little bit earlier.

I didn't want to give up on nursing and still don't.  Thanks!

  • Don't give up!  I had a c section too and at first wasn't producing as much....my DD was born 2/5 and just yesterday I started pumping out alot more than at the beginning.  It does feel like you're constantly having to pull your boobs out for feedings or pumpings but the supply will increase!  Also try googling foods that help increase milk supply (i.e. oatmeal) and also I have been drinking a tea called Mother's Milk that I think has helped alot.  Good luck!

DCchick- are you nursing and pumping?  LO was born on 2/10, wants nothing to do with latching, although we're still trying most feedings, we're suplimenting with formula but I'm not pumping near enough to cover more than 2 feeding a day.  I'm willing to keep up the every 2hrs pumping if there's still hope..to move away from formula and just excl. pump and bottle feed.

  • I had a c-section on a Tuesday and my milk didn't come in fully until the following Saturday night so don't give up jsut yet :) I pumped the first few days to keep it flowing and fed it to baby by syringe to avoid supplementing, something the LC at the hospital showed me.

So sorry about not responding....LO keeps me so busy (as you probably know too!).  But yes I am nursing and pumping.  The more you nurse/pump, the more your body should produce (milk).  As far as the problem with latching, do you have anyone that could help you with that....my nurse at the hospital and my doula helped me alot and we're good now.  GOod luck!
