Bottle Sterilizer/Warmer

Please share what products you will be using with your little ones. I have registered for Avent and Dr. Brown bottles--figured why not put two different kinds there to see which one is better.. But I read the reviews on the sterilizers and everyone says they burn the bottles, turn them brown, etc..What are you planning to use?

Re: Bottle Sterilizer/Warmer

  • I registered for Dr. Brown's bottles and the Dr. Brown's microwave sterilizer.  I read the reviews and didn't remember anything about burning the bottles.  I'll have to go back and check again!

  • Boiling water. My hubby is a mad scientist and makes his own beer and tell me that we can use a food grade sterilizer if we want but really the dishwasher or boiling water should do the trick! :o)

Started TTC in 2006, LOTS of trying, and trying, and 7 rounds of IVF with 13 embryos, 2 perfect little boys and 5 loses....
All finished with babies, started to make diet changes, Keto, to be MORE for my kids, lost 30 pounds, still going, and 3 months in, I had a natural cycle, and then ovulated... Hubs and I are going to see what happens now... Maybe a natural pregnancy? After everything we have been through? Or just a return to normal hormones? We shall see what the future holds!

  • These are on my list of "things that are a waste of money that pregnant women are convinced they need to have or they will be bad moms"

My bottle sterilizer = my husband with soap and water or the dishwasher

My bottle warmer = pot of boiling water or if in a hurry, microwave (if it's cold) - if I am making the bottle and using it right away it'll be made with room temperature water and probably not heated.

  • I honestly would NOT use Dr. Browns bottles unless you baby absolutely NEEDS them. They are a royal pain in the a** to clean. My DD#1 was severly colicky and she couldnt take anything other then Dr Browns until I discovered NUK.

Just my thoughts!! I sterilized bottles once a week in boiling water... and then a warmer I used a cup of water from my keurig - my DD took room temp bottles tho  so we didnt always do that!

Just some of what Ive been thru - hope that helps!

  • I wouldn't bother with either.  My son breastfed most of the time at home, but we did use bottles at daycare or when my husband needed to feed him.  Warm water worked just fine for warming bottles and I just put our bottles in the dishwasher.

I think they have sets of several different brands of bottles you can get.   We went through 10 different bottles/nipples before we found one my son would take.  I would recommend at least keeping receipts and not opening all of your bottles too early just in case you baby won't take what you register for or buy.  My son ended up taking Playtex Drop-ins with the latex nipple.  He absolutely refused anything silicone.

It took 3 1/2 long years, but we finally got our little miracle!
