How old was your baby when you took him/her to church?

My husband and I would sure like to start going to church again.  We are really missing it.  The girls are 4 months old now.  I think they would be fine.  At what age did you take you baby to church?

  • To church and held by us--as soon as I felt well enough to attend.

To church and in the nursery--around 16 months :)

  • We started going back when he was 2 weeks old. I started leaving him in the nursery when he was around 6 months old. Before then, I'd just take him out to our cafe/lounge area if he started to get fussy.
  • we started going around 6-weeks i think.

he still stays with me during the service most days simply cause i miss him during the week that i don't want to share him Smile but he's starting to get rowdy so some weeks he needs to go to the nursery now...

  • I don't have a church that I attend right now. A few years ago I worked in the nursery at my church. We had very young babies that were left in the nursery with us- a month or two? If you are unsure you can go and sit in the nursery with LO's during bible study or something and get to know the nursery workers so that you are comfortable with them. Maybe periodically get up during the service and go check on them. Let the workers know when you want them to come and get you (for example- if they cry for more than 5 minutes I'll be sitting in the back of church- just come get me)- it was always reassuring to know what limits each parent has for their kiddos. I'm sure the church nursery has their own policy but it never hurts to give them a few of your own pointers.

  • Our twins (also 4 months old) went to church for the first time right around 4 months. We certainly could've taken them earlier, but we felt like we had our hands full.  They've only been once (see "hands full"  - haha).  They did pretty well. They slept through most of the sermon in their car seats, which we rocked to soothe them.  There were lots of babies there - many younger than my two. Mine weren't even the loudest. :)

My church does have a nursery program for the babies, but I'm not ready to leave them there yet. They haven't been to daycare, so maybe once we pass that hurdle...

  • FIRST of all, how is it possible that those two cuties are already 4 months old?  Yikes.

With DD1, we took her after her first round of vaccines around 3 months or so.  I did not leaver her in the nursery though - she stayed with us - I had a LOT of issues leaving her at first (my own issues, no fault of the nursery).  But we were also not too active in our church at that point either, so we did not miss it too much.  Once she was about 6 months old though, I was finally comfortable leaving her in the nursery.

Now we are much more active and involved with our church, and we've both been missing it.  DH took DD1 with him last week while I stayed home w/ DD2.  DD2 is now just over a month old, but we are planning on taking her this week.  I plan to wear her in the moby the whole time though (fingers crossed that works) and DD1 will be in the nursery/sunday school program that she loves.  Our nursery will take babies 3 months and older - so you might need to look into the rules for your church's nursery.

    Good luck! :)

  • held by me?  3 weeks?  lol.  in childcare?  probably not until 4-5months?
