tips/advice on getting out of bed

I had the hardest time getting up from bed with my last c/s. Our bed is soft and medium height. I almost just wanted to sleep sitting up on the couch. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make it easier to get up from bed this time around??

Re: tips/advice on getting out of bed

  • My first was an emergency c after a very long labor and I remember that feeling.  This time it was planned and it was much easier to get out of bed on my own.  Turning on my side, then pushing my upper body up with my arms was all I needed to do to get out fine.

  • For weks after my first c/s I had the hardest time getting out of bed. I actually had to have DH help me every time and it took forever! This time around it was a bit sore/stiff feeling getting up and down while I was in the hospital (2 days) but by the time I came home it was no problem at all. I wonder if the fact that you nerves have already been cut through once makes it less painful the second time around? Not sure but it was MUCH less painful the second time.

Pretty much this. I just tried to do it in one quick motion while staying in the fetal position. So, I essentially worked my oblique muscles instead of my abs so much. I had a shooting pain for nearly 2 weeks, though. It was awful. It also happened when I stood up from the bathroom. I tried not to pee as much as possible. Thankfully that went away. Turns out it was probably irritation from the stitches.

  • this was easier for me the 2nd time around.  But, it was easier to roll on my side and push up with my arm than trying to sit up from laying flat on my back too.  I was pretty used to doing that from being PG anyway.  I just took it slow.

  • I used a footstool to help with getting in/out of bed.  It helped a lot!

This.  I also slept sitting up for about 2 weeks.  After 2 weeks, I turned to my side and pushed myself up with my arm as suggested above.  Just remember to go slow.

  • First off, any type of support band was amazing and really helped! I actually slept in a chair for the first week home.. I propped a couple pillows behind me to assist when I'd get up. There would have been no way I'd be laying down to sleep before that- it wouldn't have been work it.
