XP: Bit of a setback...(Also, PIP)

Hello everyone!
Adalyn
has been having a rough couple of days. Last night they stopped her
oral feedings because she was distended and hadn't pooped and were
worried that she had an ileus, which is when the intestine has stopped
moving things along. They stopped her feedings and gave her IV fluids
to give her gut a chance to rest, and luckily this morning she wasn't
distended and her abdominal x-ray looked much better than yesterday.
Her nurse said that she had good bowel sounds and she also pooped while DH was changing her! She restarted her oral feedings today at 12pm,
at 6ml of plain breastmilk (without the fortifier) every 3 hours, and
every 12 hours they will increase by 3ml.
The
biggest problem today has been that she has needed more
vent support than she's ever needed. While she has been on low
settings, the MD said that she is now on moderate support. Her oxygen
need, as well as the respiratory rate and pressure settings, are
higher. The nurse told me that she had a lot of secretions and that
they've had to suction her quite frequently. The MD said that it is
unclear if the infection has progressed to pneumonia because her CBC
doesn't indicate that infection. The increase in secretions could be
because of the scarring that her lungs have because she is on the vent,
or also because she is finally getting rid of the infection. He said
that the use of steroids is under consideration, but they want to make
sure that she doesn't have an infection. We'll see how the day goes and
whether or not her secretions and overall vent support improves. Let's
all hope and send positive energy to get her to clear all this up and
get off the vent!
She gained weight, but we're not sure if
it was mostly due to her not pooping and increased secretions, so take
it with a grain of salt. Last night she weighed 930g (just over 2
pounds!), but the night before that she was 870grams (about 1 pound
14.5ounces). A 60 gram (2 ounce) weight gain is something to be taken
with a grain of salt. 20 to 30gram weight gain is more appropriate.
However, maybe she went through a growth spurt? We'll see tonight what
her weight is.

Sorry to hear about setbacks, but hopefully for every down part of the rollercoaster, she has a really good up!! That picture is precious and a tear jerker. Hang in there, you are so strong and Adalyn is a little trooper!!
