  No trick here. I believe the most critical thing to any type of relationship but most certainly my marriage is respect.  Once respect is lost, things change.

  For us, it's communication and being in tune with the other's needs. DH knows I need sleep and girl time. I know he needs video games and loves his job so much he needs to work.

  Seriously, the couple that screams and fights is sometimes better off than the ones who bend over backwards to try and keep things deep inside and never talk about the tough issues.

  Communication, spontaneity, and showing genuine interest in each others hobbies. We love changing up our 'routine' and try to do new things often.

  Support, encouragement, I agree with what most people are saying esp with sex! I noticed that after L was born we stopped having sex on a regular basis. Now, we make it a priority. It's so important to show your love in different ways.

  Complete honesty, and trust. Without one, you cannot have the other, and without both, a good relationship goes out the window. Open communication is also key...getting things out and not bottling them up and letting them fester until you finally explode into a knock-down-drag-out fight of the century - how is anyone supposed to know how you feel if you don't tell them?? And not just open communication, but GOOD communication; listening to your partner and hearing what they have to say, understanding and acknowledging those feelings, and making a conceded effort to actually act on those feelings. Having pretty much identical tastes in everything helps us out too.

  Yea, and sex too. Lots and lots of sex. Good sex. A lot. Yea.
