On Sunday night Feb 12th I was having lot's of back pain and I felt like my bp was through the roof. I slept really restless that night and at one point woke up knowing it was coming. I kept having really bad stomach aches and diarrhea. At about 5:30 I called my parents to come stay with DS as the contractions were getting closer and stronger. I laid in bed for a while watching TV and trying to relax.
We arrived at the hospital at about 7 and I was 2cm (odd because my MW told me I was 3 at my last appt). They kept threatening to send me home which was REALLY annoying because I had done this before and knew I was in labor. The last thing I wanted to do was go home and labor with my 3 year old jumping on me. In the first 3 hours I went to a 4 so they decided to break my water since I wanted to stay. From there it was pretty painful but slow going. 2 hours later I was still a 4 which was pretty frustrating.
After that things picked up a bit, I went from a 4 to a 7 in 45 minutes... this was really really painful! Once I got to a 7 I went for a walk and threw up all over the hallway. After that I was screaming through some contractions but when they told me I went from 7 to 9 in half an hour I felt like I was close and could do it.
Then I got to spend the next hour and 45 min going from 9 to 10! It was excruciating!! Way worse than with DS1. I was passing out and throwing up and kept saying I couldn't do it. They let me push at one point to see if his head would open me to a 10. It didn't and then I was just swollen
Now they had me contract on my hand and knees for about an hour to take some pressure off. Finally they said to flip over and they checked me, I was a 10 and they didn't even have time to break the bed down because he was right there.
I pushed once and was SO confused of why it hurt so bad because I could not imagine he was already coming out. The minute his head came out everything went into chaos. My MW screamed to get a pediatric team and people were flying around the room. My DH and mom were crying and I had NO idea what was happening. They told me to push as hard as I could because his body needed to come out NOW. I pushed the hardest I ever have and he was out and immediately rushed over to the table.
Apparently the cord was wrapped twice around his neck and he was blue
He had to be resuscitated but came around very very quickly. They said if it had of taken more than 3 pushes the outcome could have been very different. It was terrifying to lay there watching my mom and husband crying while I could not see anything and nobody would say a word. That cry was... well pretty much the best thing I have ever heard!! They finally gave him to me and I held him so close and would not give him up to anyone, even DH for over an hour
He is nursing really well already, so if your first wouldn't nurse DON'T give up hope. It has been completely different than with DS1, I would actually call it easy!
GL to everyone on your upcoming deliveries and congrats to all who had their LO's while I was away!!
