So we decided that I wasn't going to pump and DH would give formula to DS if needed since my shifts are so short in occasion he's been fine with "snacks". And I read on the formula canister that it must be used withing a month of opening (although exp date says May 2013) . We are three weeks into it and it's not even close to being half way done.
For you formula feeders I would assume you go through a lot more formula that we are (last week I worked 4 hours, LO had 4 oz in one week!) But do you follow this warning? Turns out organic formula is neither cheap nor does it come in the small cans like other formulas! Should we dump it once the month is up? TIA.
Re: Expiration date and formula
It used to *kill* me to throw out the old, specialty kind we were using. But yes, I did, at 30 days on the dot. It just doesnt seem worth it... KWIM? $30, or potentially making LO very sick. Would you drink expired milk...? Its basically the same thing, except their systems arent as developed as ours.
Just my two cents...
I throw it out after 30 days. We too use organic and do the Earth's Best. Suggestion for you: how about these?

They are more expensive if you were to full-time FF but in your situation this could be perfect because you could just use one at a time when the need arose. You can buy in lesser quantities too instead of a 24 pack of 8 ounces each.
I'm aware. But to my knowledge, it is only formula that contains brown rice syrup that is tainted with arsenic. Ours does not have brown rice syrup, I flew to the kitchen to read the ingridient list as soon as read a few articles on that! Scary!

That would work perfectly, thanks! I didn't even know about those!
