Opinions Wanted - Black Curtains????

Hi everyone,

Trying to decide on curtains for the nursery....

The walls are light gray, all the furniture is white, and bedding and accents are JoJo Ladybug - red polka dot, black gingham, ladybugs.

I'm thinking of using blackout/thermal curtains - but besides that, I'm not very visual and can't decide what color to use.

Would it be awful if we used black curtains? We will also be using the valance included in the bedding set. I could make a sash or tie for them with the fabric that's used in the rest of the nursery to "tie it together" (no pun intended).

Thoughts? Opinions welcome.

Thanks!

  • Sounds like a red/black/white color scheme.  I don't think black curtains would be bad.  I'd get a fabric that's red or white with ladybugs on it to make tiebacks with.

    Fabric like this:
    Ladybug Fabric 1

    Ladybug Fabric 2

    Ladybug Fabric 3

    That is a great idea.

I think the black curtains are a good idea if it matches your room.  It will be so much easier for you to keep your kiddo asleep in the morning! I had the cutest curtains in DD's room at first but those barely lasted a few months since I realized fast that blackout curtains are a must!

  • It sounds like it would match your color scheme!  I got navy thermal panels and I'm happy with them even though they're somewhat dark.  If you put a colorful/lighter valance on top it would probably help to balance it out!
  • We use the black Redi Shade and it blocks the light. These are the kind that you measure and cut at home. They are like $7. https://redishade.com/store/color_black.html
  • Black shades sound like they'd go well with your color scheme.

My daughter has white/blue striped curtains in her room ... and I am always wishing that they blocked out the light better. Black would do just that! :)
