Baby update and a question

I had my 12w u/s today and surprisingly the tech was able to tell us she's "pretty sure" we're having a boy! She said that in 21 years she has only been wrong on the gender twice at this stage in the pregnancy and they were both when she thought it was a girl, but it turned out to be a boy.

Now my question...we haven't even really discussed names yet this time around. But with DD the only boys name we could even consider agreeing on was Owen. Here is the catch: SS was supposed to be Owen. Like up until the day he was born he was going to be an Owen, but BM changed her mind after he was born. Would this bother you? I know we have oodles of time to come up with something, but I also know how much DH loves the name. I'm just not sure if I'm down with using a name he had picked out with someone else, you know?

Re: Baby update and a question

  • I love the name Owen!!  Lol

I think that I would be okay with using the name because that was a different time and your SS is not Owen but your son could be!  But that's just me and hat really matters is how much it could potentially bother you

And Congratulations on having a boy!!!

  • I think as long as you don't mind it, it's fine. I think I would be bothered, but I was bothered by any remote comparisons or similarities between my pregnancy and hers.
  • Congrats! I think Owen is a great name, but personally I would not be okay using the name he choose with his ex. As you said you have plenty of time to find a name you both love, together!
  • Owen was always on my list...until I married someone with the last name of Owen,

But to be honest, while no one owns names, I will always tread lightly on previously "claimed" names.  There are so many out there, that unless this is THE NAME, I would look for something else first.

PS - I ALWAYS wanted Kieran as a boys namE, from like third grade...and mentioned that to my cousin. I was a bit hurt when she pulled that very unique name out of her ass for her son.

  • I know it would bother me.  I had the name Evangeline picked out with my XH and I still love the name, but have crossed it off as a possible future name for a LO because I just can't feel good about using it with my DH since I discussed it with another man.  But if you are OK with it and it will never bother you, go for it.

  • Yay for boys! I wouldn't use the name. I never thought about it before so I just had to turn to my husband and make sure he never considered Roman or Elijah with either BM before.
