We have been using cloth since our dd was 6 weeks old. She is now 17months and the past 5 months we have had major ammonia issues. Her morning diaper is the worst but even her wet diapers during the day smell. I tried lots of washing techniques I read online but nothing seems to work except bleaching and after bleaching the smell is back in about 2 weeks.
We use BumGenius 4.0s, bum genius odor eliminator spray, rockin green detergent, bummis flushable liners...any one have any tips or is bleaching every 2 weeks ok?
Re: BumGenius...Ammonia issue
I have the exact same issue. I bleach the inserts every 2 weeks. I use Tiny Bubbles detergent. I wanted to go to cloth because of the environmental issues mostly but after doing 1-2 rinses, then 2 hot washes and a rinse just seems like so much water I am using to wash them (every 2 days).
I keep hearing everyone saying to "strip them" but Im not entirely sure what that means. I've only been cloth diapering for 3 months now and am pretty discouraged. My hubby says he doesn't want a smelly kid, lol. Our son is 12 months old. Sigh.
