November 2011 Moms

Should I be concerned?

LO does not roll over from tummy to back yet. He has also started hating tummy time again. He'll lift his head and his legs but he doesn't do it for very long. He was 6 weeks pre-term so I don't know if that plays a part in it. Just wondering if other LO's are not there yet.
Because you're mine, I walk the line....

  • Nah, he's good :) do what you can to help him but he will do it when he's ready. My dd is 15.5 wks and still no real rolls from her

  • No worries!!  DD isn't even attempting to roll over.  She will hold her head up and kick her feet for a couple min but that's it.  She is too content laying on her back playing with her hanging toys!

  • Nope, DS2 is not rolling over yet either.  Has yet to even try.  Think its around 4 months or so when babies usually start.

DS1 hated tummy time too.  We found that laying him on the bed or couch helped along with having him lay on my stomach.

  • My DD only rolls to her left side when her diaper is off. She shows no other interest in rolling. She's happy on her back under her toys but she pulled her knees all the way up to her chest. I do tummy time on the floor, the Boppy or on my chest to give her some tummy time variety.

  • DD has rolled back to tummy once each morning for the last three days but she shows zero interest in rolling tummy to back and only tolerates about 30sec of tummy time.

  • We haven't had any rolls yet either.

  • No rolls here either. I figure she will do it when she's ready!
  • I always thought tummy to back was a 4-month milestone and back to tummy was 5-6 months. Obviously some do it earlier, but your LO is in no way behind. I had a friend whose baby was crawling at 16 weeks but he didn't say his first word until after he was a year old. They all do things at their own pace.

  • No rolling here yet.  DD#2 isn't even really lifting her head/chest when doing tummy time.  Her reflux irritates/pains her when we do tummy time, so it doesn't last long.

My first was rolling from back to belly at 3 months and then belly to back at 4 months.

  • The only rolling we have is from tummy to back and that is only cause he gets so pissed off when we do tummy time he kicks his legs until it forces him to flip on to his back. ::Sigh:: At this point he will never crawl!!!Wink

  • I could be wrong, but I thought rolling wasn't even a milestone. My 1st rolled one day and then started crawling.  I had asked our Dr. because I was concerned he wasn't rolling and he wasn't concerned.

  • I wouldn't be! DD hasn't rolled yet. The other day she was laying on her back on her activity mat and I ran to throw the garbage into the bin outside and came back to find her on her right side. I'm pretty sure it was a fluke because she hasn't done it since and has shown no other signs of wanting to roll over.

She holds her head up very well when she's on her tummy and doesn't really seem to mind tummy time. I think every baby is different!

  • Tummy time is very hit or miss at our house, and even a good day lasts maybe 4 minutes.  DS is nowhere near rolling.  He did start to roll to his side today, but that's the only thing he has ever done that indicates it's even occurred to him.  I wouldn't be concerned.
  • No rolls here!  DS #1 was a late roller too and he's just fine.  :)

  • Your baby is FINE :)  That is the thing about these boards.....mommies like to AW their children's accomplishments, often using the term "finally" to describe things...which makes us all second guess our babies when what they are doing is age appropriate or a little earlier.   All babies develop in their own unique time.  For example, DS1 didn't roll till 8 months (!), didn't crawl till 12 months and walked at 15.  DS2 rolled at 4 months, crawled at 9 and was walking at 12 months.  There is such a large time curve to meet a lot of these developmental milestones.  But get used to worrying whether your child is keeping up with the other kiddos, it's kinda part of the whole mommy worry!
